Questions We Are All Dreading During Thanksgiving Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Manhattan chapter.

Every year we come home for the first time since the semester started for Thanksgiving break. Now, Thanksgiving is filled with all great things- turkey, potatoes, stuffing, pie, more potatoes, etc, but what’s NOT so great about this holiday is the non-stop questions you get from every distant family member you have. Now, getting to see your family again is awesome, but the, seeing you during college brings out the shame and topics you were really hoping to not think about until graduation.

1. Do you have a boyfriend/girlfriend

The classic question every single person loves  to hear. Now, if you are in a relationship, that’s great! You actually have something to talk about! If not, you just receive that pitiful look that usually leads to your grandma trying to give you a pep talk and fixing you up with the guy who shovels her driveway.

2. How are your grades?

This sucks, especially now since we’re in that slump of the semester where everyone has kind of given up and stopped caring. So let’s not talk about my grades! Lets talk about the weather!!!!

3. Now that you’re in college, do you want a glass of wine?

When you have to act like one glass of wine is a big deal for your still semi-underaged self, when really you can kill a whole bottle plus more and call it a “normal friday night.”

4. How do you feel about *insert political issue*?

You love your family unconditionally, but sometimes they are very opinionated about certain political issues that you either don’t agree with or just flat out wrong. And you do not have that the energy for that argument.

5. How do you work *insert technology device*?

Opening a text message is not that hard!! It should not take an hour!!!

6. Did you gain weight since the last time I saw you?

They say the second before you shove your face with mashed potatoes. I JUST REALLY LIKE PIZZA, OKAY?

7. What are your plans for after you graduate? Any jobs lined up?

DON’T TALK ABOUT MY FUTURE DON’T DO IT.

8. Why would you choose a major in *insert major here*? What kind of jobs do they have available?

File under: questions I get asked/ask myself everyday of my life

But hey, it’s only one day, there are much worse things than bearing the questions that make you evaluate your entire college experience/exsistance in general. Like finals! Those are soon! You have that thought to distract you!!!!!
