Jojo Siwa Makes DWTS History as the First Contestant to have a Same Sex Partner

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Manhattan chapter.

Jojo Siwa is well known for her incredible dance moves and iconic fashion choices. However, she’s also one of the youngest and most influential people in the world to come out as a member of the LGBTQ+ community.

Siwa will now be adding another groundbreaking accomplishment to her repertoire as she will be the first ever guest on “Dancing with the Stars” to dance with a member of the same sex.

Last Thursday, it was announced on the Television Critics Association press tour that Siwa will be appearing on the 30th season of the show and is set to dance with a female professional. The 18 year old star was apparently given the choice to dance with either gender and took it as an opportunity to make history. This is the first time in the shows three decade long run that a same-sex dancing duo is showcased, and Siwa could not be more ecstatic.

Siwa told Entertainment Weekly that because of her demographic being mainly children, she proud to be breaking boundaries and teaching kids acceptance. Though she is aware she may be facing more judgement then the other contestants, Siwa is ready to bring her A game and try her best to win the season. On Tuesday, Siwa will learn who her partner is, then start training for the show. She also stated that she is more than ready to own the stage and show off the dancing skills she’s been working on her whole career.

Siwa’s talents are limitless and her dancing, along with her courageous moves towards acceptance for the LGBTQ+ community, will definitely make this season one to tune in for.

DWTS is expected to premiere on Monday, September 20th. Make sure to tune into ABC to watch Siwa make strides on and off the dance floor as she continues to be a positive role model and strong advocate for equality.
