Pandia health, a birth control business that delivers right to your door.

Dr. Sophia Yen is one of the co-founders and CEO of the only female-founded, female-led and doctor-led company within the birth control delivery service industry. Her #PeriodsOptional movement emphasizes that periods aren’t mandatory and there are various benefits to “turning it off”. Pandia Health can be delivered nationwide and there are doctors in a variety of states. The founding doctors only go by what is evidence based and nothing that is bad for your health. Pandia Health offers delivery of the pill, patch and ring.

I had the opportunity to interview Dr. Yen myself. During our interview, Dr. Yen shared that she was inspired to create a service such as this one, as she was once talking to a group of Physicians about why women don’t take their birth control, and the reason being that they don’t have it in their hand or even the chance to run to the pharmacy when they need it. After that, they decided to start a company that delivers birth control to women, by being doctor-led they write the prescription for the birth control as in the US you cannot receive the pill, patch or ring without a prescription. They believe better care by better doctors and allowing women to find the pill that best works for them. Dr. Yen was personally driven to start this business as she has always been passionate about women and having access to decide what happens with our bodies.

Dr. Yen also shared that she was inspired by herself and for herself. She makes reference to a term she calls “pill anxiety” when you get to your last week of pills and now have to find time to go to the pharmacy and get a new prescription. What is really inspiring is that she more importantly created the company for her twelve and fifteen year old daughters to receive the best possible care. She wants her daughters to be able to continue doing life without being bothered by the fact that they are bleeding. Pandia Health is aiming at destigmatizing the concept behind birth control and that it can be used for menstrual regulation rather than just sexual protection.

#PeriodsOptional is the hashtag that explains that you don’t have to have your period every month. By slowing down the number of periods we get we reduce the chances of getting ovarian cancer, endometrial cancer and colorectal cancer greatly. Not only that but it also reduces landfill, less menstrual products are being disposed of, as we in our lifetime use between 10,000 to 13,000 menstrual products.

The concept behind Pandia Health is greatly inspiring, and Dr. Yen is an amazing doctor who is passionate about helping women. We definitely need more doctors like her in the world today, especially at providing resources for women’s wellbeing.
