Signs that you are Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lynn chapter.

Pride and Prejudice is arguably the most loved Jane Austen narrative. Even today, it is a popular classical read among teenagers and adults. Based on England’s Georgian era, this masterpiece has various entertaining characters with a multitude of layers in each one, making them individualized and unique. Each character has their quirks that make them all remarkable in their own ways, and yet the most adored of them all are the two protagonists of the tale Fitzwilliam Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet. Like all readers, I have my own bias too. While I empathize with and appreciate men like Mr. Darcy, Liz Bennet is, just by a few inches, closer to my heart. Second oldest of the Bennet sisters, she has many positive qualities, but she was not flawless. That realism in her character is what I like the most. It is as if she is a real person and not a fabrication of someone’s dreamland.

If you are wondering whether or not you are an Elizabeth Bennet or not, then muse no more. Here are some signs that tell you, you are Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice.

1. You have your own opinions and the strong will to express them regardless of how others might perceive you.

2. You aren’t afraid to be yourself and to stand up for what you believe in. 3. You know what makes you happy, and are always looking for new ways to have fun, like embarking on a new adventure or conversing with friends and family.

4. You make others around you feel comfortable with you. They naturally trust you and lean on you. People are drawn to you like a moth to a flame.

5. You are the heroine of your story. You do not care about being a part of a group if it hinders your personal goals, or does not align with your beliefs. This often makes you feel lonely, but that is not enough for you to comply or compromise.

6. You are often described as intelligent, quick-witted or independent of thought and action. The voice of instinct is almost always the best guidance you get.

7. You’re loyal to your family and friends, and you have a good sense of people. You know which people to let in your inner circle, and whom to not trust.

8. You are not without shortcomings, though. You can be a bit judgmental, a bit outspoken, and a bit stubborn.

9. You sometimes find yourself in trouble because you can’t keep your sharp tongue inside your mouth. Although, you’re sensible enough to know when your first impression was off-base.

10. While you are clever and articulate, you are also quick to judge. Sometimes your outspoken nature makes the wrong impression, but you’d rather people think you’re rude than boring or dim-witted.

11. And lastly, there is stubbornness about you that never can bear to be frightened at the will of others. Your courage always rises at every attempt to imitate you!
