Ke Huy Quan won an Oscar award on March 12th, 2023. You may remember Ke Huy Quan from the famous quote “Goonies Never Say Die” from the movie The Goonies back in the 80s. Winning an Oscar was a big deal for him! Here is his journey to winning an Oscar.

He was born in Saigon, Vietnam and is one of nine children. Him and his family fled Vietnam in 1978 due to the war and they were all split up. Ke and his father and five of his siblings were put in a refugee camp in Hong Kong. Ke and his family reunite in the United States. At the age of 12 he got the role of starting opposite Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. After that Ke was casted in The Goonies.

Ke finally gets the call for the movie “Everything Everywhere All At Once” This movie won seven Oscars including Best Picture.

Ke’s acceptance speech was everything! Quan starts off his speech with “My journey started on a boat. I spent a year in a refugee camp and somehow he ended up here on HollyWood biggest stage” he said. “They say stories like these only happen in the movies. I can not believe this is happening to me. This is an American Dream”. Quan also shouts out to his mom “Mom I won an Oscar” and we must truly protect him at all cost!!! Lastly Ke urges everyone to “Keep Their Dreams Alive”.
