How to (Pumpkin) Spice Up Your Life for Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at LUC chapter.

Summer is finally winding down, and in the most bittersweet fashion we begin to welcome the crisp and cozy feelings that follow the amazing season of FALL! Although summer is my favorite time of the year, I can’t hide my excitement to light a candle, throw on a fuzzy sweater and consume an insane amount of pumpkin spice flavored things.

To get you just as excited as I am about the approaching spooky season, here is a list of my fall essentials which are sure to spice up your life this fall!

Enough Candles to Set Off Your Apartment’s Smoke Alarm

Seriously, candles are a pivotal component of fall decor, aesthetics, and cozy vibes. There are so many great places that have a range of scents to choose from, but some of my favorites are from Bath and Body Works, Anthropologie, and Target! All of these stores do a great job of offering special deals on their candles, so don’t forget to watch for price falls and stock up when you can. We wouldn’t want your place smelling like anything less than an autumn pumpkin patch or warm pecan waffles.

Sweaters, on Sweaters, on Sweaters!

It’s always a nice change in routine to transition from summer tanks and crops to a big, oversized sweater in the fall. Add a cute pair of jeans, leggings or a skirt, and you really can’t go wrong! My favorite places to shop for sweater essentials are Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie, and the countless thrift stores around Chicago.

Pumpkin Spice and Everything Nice

As basic as it is, pumpkin spice is my go-to flavor for fall, especially when it comes to baking and flavoring my coffee! One recipe I love making is pumpkin protein balls. They’re great before the gym or as a snack in between classes, and they’re extremely easy to make. Another pumpkin spice favorite of mine is a warm, creamy latte. If you’re not trying to break the bank by hitting the campus Starbucks everyday, try the Pumpkin Spice creamer from Whole Foods or California farms–it’s the same delicious taste without the financial guilt.

Spooky Skincare

Because skincare is an essential part of every season, make sure to check out the seasonal bath bombs, shower gels and soap bars at Lush! The scent and quality of their products is unmatched, and I absolutely love their focus on sustainable packaging. Another product that has been my go-to for combatting the windy fall weather is Glossier’s Priming Moisturizer. It layers perfectly under all of my makeup and serves as that extra layer of hydration that my skin craves this time of year. Lastly, I like to finish off my face with a soothing spritz of Pixi Hydrating Milky Mist to make sure that the Chicago wind doesn’t make my foundation look flaky.

Even if you love summer like me, there are SO many amazing activities and holidays in the fall to look forward to. The most important being that it usually warrants a shopping excursion to try out new seasonal products and fashion trends. I hope this list encourages you to spice up your life for fall and find your own favorite products for the season!
