Fall Activities That Are More Fun to Do with Your Friends than a Significant Other

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at LUC chapter.

It’s fall y’all, so you know what that means: its cuffing season. Girls across the country are going out with their significant others doing Instagram-worthy fall activities. Having been in a relationship last fall, I’ll have you know that (at least from my experience), it’s not all it’s cracked up to be. So if you’re currently feeling the blues about being single (or maybe you have a boyfriend/girlfriend that will just NOT go apple picking with you), don’t fret! Here’s a list of fun seasonal things to do that will be infinitely more fun with your besties.

1. Fall Shopping

New season means new trends which means it’s time to hit up Water Tower. I hate to break it to you, but I can almost guarantee your boyfriend will neither know nor care if your distressed skinny jeans go better with those suede ankle booties or the black leather motos. Bring one or two of your best friends that will not only encourage you to have a fashion show in the dressing room, but will also be honest enough to tell you, you probably shouldn’t invest in that dark purple lipstick.

2. Exploring Pumpkin Patches and Apple Orchards

Yeah, it’s basic, but anyone that says they don’t like apple cider donuts or finding the perfect pumpkin is probably lying. Not only do these places have a bunch of fun activities and tasty foods, but they’re also the perfect places for fall photo ops. Only a true friend will care enough to snap that perfect “candid” shot of you reaching for the juiciest apple or roaming through a scenic pumpkin patch. Plus, who better to capture these memories with than the people you know are going to be there for you beyond the fall season?

3. Watching Seasonal Movies

Whether it’s Amityville Horror, Scream, or basically any Wes Craven movie, tis’ the season to be spooked. However, if scary isn’t your style, there’s always other Halloween classics like the epic DCOM “Halloweentown.” I don’t know about you, but when I say I want to Netflix and Chill right now, I sincerely mean I want to watch Netflix and chill. Yeah I know this is the thirteenth time I’ve watched Hocus Pocus this month, but Dani telling Allison that Max likes her “yabbos” will never get old. Ever.

4. Halloween Costumes

There’s only one thing better than an awesome couple’s costume: group costumes. You can’t be the Spice Girls or the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with only two people. Well, I mean you could, but it would look pretty sad. So in the sea of Jokers and Harley Quinns this Halloween, grab your gang and pick a group costume that’ll have you all stand out from the rest of the crowd.

5. “Friendsgiving”

Sure the idea of finally being able to bring a significant other to a family gathering seems nice. However, do you really want to spend the holiday worrying about the potential awkwardness that comes when your romantic life suddenly interacts with family life? So instead of trying to hide all of your embarrassing middle school pics and begging dad play it cool (just this once), plan a Turkey Day celebration for you and your pals. While it most likely won’t be on the actual day of Thanksgiving, you can still practice your “adulting” skills by making a nice meal and getting together with some of the peeps in your life that you’re most thankful for.

So there you have it. These are just a handful of fun fall activities you can do with your friends this season. While there’s nothing wrong with doing any of these things with your significant other, remember to set aside some time to spend with the people who you know will always have your back. You also don’t need to do anything extravagant. It could be a simple as grabbing a PSL or hot chocolate and window shopping on Michigan Ave. Just remind your friends how grateful you are for them and that you know they’ll be around the whole holiday season…
