Elizabeth Keyes: The Keye to Blogging

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at LUC chapter.

Elizabeth Keyes, a Grand Rapids native, is currently a sophomore at Loyola University Chicago. As a nursing student, she was looking for a creative outlet to express her love for fashion, and a fun way to help get away from the rigorous work load. Keyes traveled to Chicago for school to take advantage of the immense opportunities the city life has to offer, which was a huge stepping stone in her life. And what better way to take advantage of the Chicago beauty than capturing it on her own personal blog?

Elizabeth was sitting in the library with her friends six months ago when they came up with her blog title, The Fashion Keye. It adds a personal touch, while incorporating her blog’s focus, fashion! After years of admiring other fashion blogs and their success, Elizabeth decided it was time to take the step into establishing a creative outlet using her love for fashion. With the help of her friends and her Kappa Kappa Gamma sisters, Elizabeth spends her free time adventuring into the unique streets of Chicago strolling through boutiques, restaurants, neighborhoods and more. She incorporates her blog into her social life by not just looking for artsy backgrounds, but through creating memories with her best friends and learning about Chicago while capturing precious moments. Wicker Park and Lincoln Park are without question picture friendly, but they also offer Elizabeth a way to find hidden gems throughout the city and keep her followers up to date.

As a nursing major, Elizabeth definitely has a full plate. She does an extraordinary job, however, posting outfits and helpful lifestyle tips for her followers. While she truly enjoys getting dolled up, she finds personal blog posts her favorite part of the job. Elizabeth loves the part of blogging where she can post tips and stories and feel like her blog actually benefits her followers. She advises future bloggers to really plan out their blog posts. Before starting a blog, she recommends having pre-written posts to make sure you always have something ready and don’t scramble on due dates.

“Blogging is a huge time commitment, but a lot of fun. Start off with a good design and plan, use your social media to its full advantage, and interact with other bloggers. It’s a really fun outlet and should be seen as just that”.

Elizabeth plans on continuing for as long as she can with The Fashion Keye. She’s enjoying everything blogging has to offer and hopes to make a job out of it one day. While she aims to expand her blog and its following, she is more focused for now on having fun with her newfound hobby.

“My favorite part of having a blog is hearing the responses people have after a blog post. It’s fulfilling to hear not only friends and family, but people I’ve never met benefit from what I have to say on the blog. In the future, I hope to expand my blog mainly to meet and work with bloggers I look up to and inspire other bloggers around the world.”

Hi there! I am currently a sophomore at LUC studying ADV/PR and Psychology. I am a lover of fashion, dance and all things Chicago! "Throw kindness around like confetti"... XO
Molly is the Loyola University Chicago CC, a PR consultant and fashion merchandiser by day, a blogger by night, and a coffee addict all the time. She's a Starbucks and Sephora VIP member, which is both a blessing and a curse, and would rather get Valentino than a Valentine. Her interior design efforts usually incorporate elk, while her wardrobe consists of black, black, and slightly darker shades of black.
