Have you ever made plans to hang out with your friends, and you’re all excited and ready to have fun and you walk outside to see the sun shining and the birds chirping and you’re feeling really good only to have all of that flushed down the drain by mother nature? Trust me guys, you’re not alone. We love her and all she does for us, but mother nature really knows how to put a damper on your mood.

There have been many occasions where my friends and I have made plans to do something with each other, like going out to a park, to the outdoor pool at Lambright, or even sit outside just to have a change of scenery and enjoy the nice weather with each other, but mother nature had other plans… Imagine sitting under a tree, enjoying a nice picnic under a clear sky with your significant other one minute and then the next it just starts hailing out of nowhere (yes, this actually happened). Situations like this have been occurring more frequently over the past few years and it makes you wonder what Mother Nature has been stirring up in this geographical gumbo-pot we call home.

Rain is already known for affecting a person’s mood. We, as college students, know the struggle of rainy days. You wake up in the morning, get ready for your classes, and it starts pouring just as you’re walking to class. A real pain, right? Rain makes it even harder to be active in your social life and do fun activities with your friends. Why does the rain have to complicate things so much sometimes? Well, don’t let the weather get you down and keep you locked up in your room all day. There’s no fun in that! They might not be the most ideal days to have, but as the saying goes: “When life gives you lemons, use them to make lemonade”. When your plans seem to have fallen through because of bad weather, there’s a lot of other fun things that I’ve found in college that can make a rainy day a fun day:

  • Grab some popcorn and watch movies together! We all love Netflix and Hulu. It’s a necessity for our college lifestyles. When the rain keeps you from going outside, invite your friends over, get comfortable and pull up a good movie or series. You can never go wrong with that!

  • Bring some card or board games! Do you love a fun game of Cards Against Humanity? What Do You Meme? These are some great games to play inside with your friends. There’s always a lot of laughter during games like these. My friends and I also enjoy a good game of Werewolf. If you haven’t heard of it or never played it, I highly recommend it, especially if you’re good at lying or having a poker face.

  • Play some Just Dance! I know we’re in college, but who said we couldn’t bring back some childhood/teenage memories of dancing in the living room or in your bedroom to your favorite songs on Just Dance. You don’t have to be the best dancer to let loose and have some fun!

  • If all else fails, do some homework! Rainy days are good lazy days, but they are also a good chance to be productive.

Don’t let bad weather keep you from doing what you love! Work around the barriers of weather and have a great time with your friends around campus!
