When there’s a season change, the first thing I gravitate to is a playlist. Fall is a time after the adventures of summer to settle back down, and a good set of songs really set the tone. I mean, yes, it is still 80+ degrees outside, but we can pretend that Louisiana is experiencing fall by blasting the AC in our cars and, after this article, listening to this much more fall-feeling playlist. I hope you’re just as excited for cool weather, unlimited coffee, and early sunsets as I am!

First things first, Spotify is my go to streaming app for music, and I am quite literally obsessed. Just in time for autumn, they curate playlists like ‘Autumn Leaves’ or ‘Autumn Acoustic’ to set the mood for the months to come. I 10/10 recommend this platform, but for now I will leave with my ideal fall tunes that NEVER fail me, so I hope you enjoy!

#1 The Girl by City and Colour

City and Colour is a band lead by Dallas Green, a Canadian Musician who falls under the genre of folk music mixed with stunning acoustics. This song is beautiful, light, and reminds me of a perfect coffee shop song (how much more hipster could I get?). The lyrics are gorgeous, so make sure to give it a proper listen to appreciate it!

#2 Jackie and Wilson by Hozier

https://open.spotify.com/track/4JpazKcfOhbwqZrsYhzHee?si=GOYyHS91RwuTaw_9iHAZgw

You guys!! I adore Hozier. If I could bottle the sound of fall, it would sound PRECISELY like this man!! He is a singer/songwriter from Ireland that is well-known for his song “Take Me To Church”. This blues rock folk KING is definitely my immediate listen for September 1st on the dot.  This song always takes my back to winters in Colorado and a nice cup of coffee. The lyrics are straight poetry + the hair + the accent.  Okay, we get it, Lexi. You like Hozier.

#3 Pumpkin by The Regrettes

Now, this next band has been such a good music find this fall. The team consists of three girls and a boy drummer, and must I say- what a crew! Their sound is so unique and dynamic, and their stage presence and songwriting has really awesome notes of girl power (we love that!). They are based out of Los Angeles and broadly classified as punk. The name of this song really caught my eye for fall, but I loved it’s cute love lyrics even more!

#4 Softly by Clairo

https://open.spotify.com/track/4PvbbMYL4fkToni5BLaYRb?si=c1yU4rcETA-f2yMdEEkVcw

Clairo is a QUEEN. She is known for her “bedroom pop” chill tones and has been on repeat for me this fall. Her voice in this song + the groove of it all is such a good time. Honestly, that’s the perfect word for her. Clairo is GROOVY, and I hope this song brings that to your fall.

#5 Just Like A Movie by Wallows

https://open.spotify.com/track/0Jgbauc8Nv2OOjR5ERW28B?si=Fr4m-Y6PSbW1Shl3HcTUdA

Saving the best for last- THE WALLOWS! If you take away one thing from this playlist, let it be The Wallows. Favorite band? Absolutely, yes, yep, of course! This song in particular reminds me of how college feels, if that makes sense. Not necessarily the stressful moments, but being carefree and young. “Just Like A Movie” should be in the credits of an 80’s rom-com. That is all.

That is a wrap on my HIGHLY suggested playlist of fall songs! Associating fall memories with music is such a fun way to remember how you felt in your college years. I challenge you to make your own fall playlist with songs that make you feel something, and then go get you a nice cup of joe and light that cinnamon sugar, maple syrup, pumpkin latte mix of a candle.
