My First Time Watching The Notebook

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at LMU chapter.

Initial thoughts: I know this must be shocking that here I am at 19 years old and have never seen the Notebook. I am not expecting to cry because pretty much the only movie I have ever cried in was Marley and Me, but we will see. Follow along for my unfiltered thoughts as I experience the ultimate chick flick for the first time. I apologize in advance for all of the exclamation points and words in all caps I am about to use, it’s the only way I can express my emotions in text.

Ok we are starting out with a flock of birds flying at this white mansion at sunset, could possibly be Florida. An old woman is looking out the window like Adele in Hello music video

2:45 Now they are in an old person home or something and an old man is reading a story to the old woman from the window

Throwing it back to an old time carnival

YESSSS RYAN GOSLING as Noah Calhoon

Sorry Noah, Ally’s not feeling it

7:00 Where can I find a guy as dedicated as Noah though, he is literally hanging from a ferris wheel

9:30 lets see how this date goes

He got the walk home he must be doing something right.

Ally: “my days are all planned out” I feel that, no one has got time for a relationship at this point

13:40 This guy… now he’s laying in the street!

14:00 Now she’s in the street!!!!

A CAR IS COMING

Bless they made it out alive

*almost gets killed by car, **goes back into street to dance….ok

18:50 meeting the parents must be getting serious.

Retweet: “you can have pancakes anytime of the day”

21:20 “If you’re a Bird I’m a bird” that’s cute I guess if you’re into birds.

PDA city WOW

Allie’s dad’s stache though, killin it

Allie’s mom asking all the tough questions. Plot twist Allie is going to school in New York.

26:15 RYAN GOSLING SHIRTLESS why did it take this long??

Am I the only person on earth that doesn’t know how to play the piano

** New Year’s resolution 2017 learn to play piano so I can be Allie and therefore have Ryan Gosling as my boyfriend.

Clothes are coming off omg.

LOL Finn just walked in on them!!

Noah about to get the “anything you do to my daughter I will do to you” talk from Allie’s dad.

Nooooo Noah is not trash, he loves your daughter can’t you see that?!

Wow you guys I might actually cry if this keeps up

40:15 if they break up now what is the whole rest of the movie…

Allie leaving town like…

You snooze you loose Noah she’s already gone.

Allie’s mom taking Noah’s letters is like the mom in A Cinderella Story when she takes Sam’s acceptance letter. Not loving all this manipulation moms.

He better not die in the war!! They have to reunite.

This guy in the full body cast asking Allie on a date… sorry she’s taken.

Actually Lon’s pretty hot too so I won’t take sides.

Honestly I can only see him as the prince from Enchanted, is that bad?

SHE SAID YES!!!! But what about Noah?! He must be coming back in soon.

YES buy the house Noah, build it for Allie.

Run! Find your girl Noah!

55:30 yes Noah she will come back if you fix the house.

Noah with a beard though… right when I thought he couldn’t get better.

ALLIE’S AT THE HOUSE! This is your chance Noah.

Why is he not saying anything!! Confess your love you are going to lose her again.

Wow I’m so dumb, just realized Allie and Noah are the old couple at the nursing home how did I not see that coming, so like they must end up together then?!?

1:09:45 awkward she is so uncomfortable in that house with him.

1:10:44 goodbye round two, but she’s coming back the next day, I’m on the edge of my seat.

The old man has kids that aren’t hers so is he not Noah, or do they not end up together I’m so confused.

False alarm the old Allie is their mom so they do end up together! This movie is an emotional rollercoaster and I’m not even that invested in it.

Allie is back at the house! Noah’s last shot go big or go home man.

Yes noah pulling out all the stops with this rowboat in the pond.

Little Mermaid Kiss the girl vibes coming in strong.

Of course there are swans wow this could not be more perfect.

*cue rain

**cue makeout… relationship mended???

Clothes are off again! Something about this house I guess.

OH SHOOT When Allie’s replacement shows up in the morning…. This is about to get interesting.

Helen knows it’s over with Noah so now there’s room for Allie. Things are looking up.

NOOO Allie’s mom just showed up this cannot be happening.

You go girl bring up those letters.

Wait what I was on instagram for two seconds and now the mom is crying.

WHAT IS HAPPENING?!

Is there a like mother like daughter situation going on??

SHE KEPT THE LETTERS!!!!

Update Allies mom is not as cruel as first thought sorry for judging.

But when will the Fiancee show up….

Noah: “what are you going to do Allie” yeah we would all like to know Allie, please make a decision.

1:37:30 aaannnddd she’s gone again.

YESSSS SHE CAME BACK!

Nursing home Allie remembers who she is and now they are dancing like they did in the street on their first date.

Her dementia set back in and she forgot everything, tears are welling you guys the old Noah is crying.

He snuck into her room to say goodbye that was the sweetest thing ever.

Ending thoughts: Well I didn’t cry. Just a little side note: people who don’t cry in movies can still be sad. I do have emotions I just don’t cry like ever. The Notebook did hit a lot closer to home than I thought it would because my grandma Alice passed from dementia, so scenes with old Allie got the tears welling a little bit. This was definitely not my favorite film of all time but it was cute and left me wanting a summer romance worthy of its own movie. I would recommend it if you are having a girls night in with popcorn and nail painting but chances are you have already seen it.
