You’ve probably seen pictures of celebrities posing in sheet masks prepping for events on your instagram feed. Koreans swear by a sheet mask a night but do sheet masks really work or are they just a huge waste of money?

First, let’s delve into how sheet masks work.

Sheet masks come in all different types of materials: cotton, hydrogel, biocellulose, and so on. The “sheet” is soaked and infused with nutrition-packed serums and essences that are supposed to hydrate the skin, revitalize and give the skin a youthful glow. The difference between traditional masks, such as a clay mask, is that sheet masks act as an occlusive seal on the skin(pushes in the essential ingredients instead of letting them evaporate) and does not need to be washed off. Some popular ingredients found in sheet mask are hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, snail extract, aloe vera, tea tree oil, and pearl extract. To use a sheet mask, just place the sheet mask on top of your face, relax for 20-30 min, discard the sheet mask, and push the excess serum into the face.

My favorite sheet masks

My experience with sheet masks

Some Koreans claim that a sheet mask a day should be a part of your skin care routine. Some even go so far and “doublefist” meaning 2 sheet masks a day. I personally like to use 2-3 sheet masks a week because sheet masks are expensive and they take up a lot of time. I like sheet masking when I’m stressed because it helps me relax and hydrates my skin after a tough week. It’s fun to use and if you decide to try out this skincare trend, will definitely become addicted to sheet masking!!
