Beginner’s Guide to Kombucha

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at LMU chapter.

Are you interested in trying kombucha, but didn’t want to get stuck with a flavor that wasn’t that great? Trust me, we’ve all been there. As an avid kombucha drinker, here’s some of my favorite GT’s Enlightened Synergy kombuchas! These are definitely in an order of my recommendations if you’ve never had it before, I’ll share my personal favorites at the end.

  1. Trilogy

  2. Mystic Mango

  3. Guava Goddess

  4. Gingerberry

  5. Strawberry Serenity

  6. Passionberry Bliss

  7. Cosmic Cranberry

  8. Gingerade

  9. Raspberry Chia

  10. Grape Chia

  11. Cherry Chia

  12. Black Chia

  13. Green Chia

These aren’t all the flavors, but these are definitely the ones I see the most often at the grocery stores around me. They do have some other specialty flavors, like Turmeric and Rosé. I put the chia flavors last because people who don’t like drinking anything textured definitely won’t like these ones, but they’re really good if you can get past the bumpy chia seeds! My personal favorites are triology, raspberry chia, and gingerade, but gingerade isn’t one that I’d recommend if you’re not used to or don’t like the kombucha flavor. Ginger tends to be really strong in any drink and a bit fizzy, like soda. However, if you’re ever feeling kinda sick or are afraid you’re getting sick, it’s a great choice. Trilogy also comes in a 1.4 L bottle, so you can get a better bang for your buck.

If you go to LMU or live in LA, you can get kombucha at Target, Trader Joe’s, Ralph’s, Bristol Farms, Whole Foods, and a lot of other grocery stores! I would say to be a little prepared to be rejected though, some places/workers will ask you to show your ID since it does have a slight naturally occurring alcohol content. I’ve never been asked to present an ID and I buy it all the time, but I know people who have been rejected.

Kombucha is super great and good for you, so definitely check it out if you haven’t already! I started drinking it about 4 years ago and I never get sick of it.
