Affordable and Effective Skincare

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at LMU chapter.

If you’re like me, you want to have great skin without breaking the bank. I’ve always struggled with my skin texture, redness, and some acne, and it’s taken a few years and a lot of trial and error to get my routine right. I rarely splurge on skincare and thought I would share my affordable recommendations with you.

To note, I have normal skin type with typically textured/dull skin.

Senka Perfect Whip Cleanser

I discovered this face wash when I went to Japan this Spring. Before I went I did a lot of research on the best skincare and makeup products to buy while I was there, and this cleanser was in almost every video or blog post that I saw. This is a foaming cleanser from one of Shiseido’s more affordable brands that do a great job at cleansing your skin of oil, dirt, and even makeup. I typically only need a tiny bit to cover my whole face, and a whole tube lasts about six months.

Thayers Witch Hazel Toner

I’m sure that we’ve all heard of this miracle product, but maybe you’ve wondered if the hype was deserved. I can tell you now that this product is absolutely as good as people say it is. Witch hazel is a natural anti-inflammatory product that also has antibacterial properties. When I started using this my skin calmed down and cleared up. This toner comes in rose, cucumber, lavender, and unscented varieties (though rose is the most popular).

The Ordinary Niacinamide Serum

If you take anything away from this article, it should be the brand The Ordinary. I first discovered this brand on Youtube from a beauty guru Arden Rose, who strongly recommended their serums. The Ordinary is an extremely affordable brand that uses simple ingredients for effective products. Their Niacinamide serum is comparable to the Glossier Pure serum which is three times the price of The Ordinary. This serum targets breakouts and I use it twice a day and rarely get breakouts. This product seriously transformed my skin and I cannot get enough of it. They have many amazing affordable products, and I highly recommend checking out their website.

Pure Body Naturals Dead Sea Mud Mask

About a year ago I was looking for a new mask that would help my clogged pores and get all of the gunk out of my skin. I found this mask on Amazon and was intrigued by the low price tag, so I took a chance on it with low expectations. This mask really surprised me! It leaves my skin feeling clean but not too dry like a lot of other masks. It also doesn’t feel too tight and uncomfortable on my face and has lasted me a while.

Cetaphil Moisturizer

An oldie but a goodie, the Cetaphil moisturizer is great for all skin types. It’s moisturizing but doesn’t clog the pores, and is typically enough moisture for dry skin. I highly recommend using this under makeup or layered with other moisturizing products. This moisturizer is affordable, effective, and one of my faves!

Remember that what works for me may not work for you, and although these products are targeted for all skin types, they may not agree with your skin. However, I still wanted to share some of my favorite products with you, and hope that this article was helpful. Stay gorgeous!
