5 Ways to Celebrate Galentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at LMU chapter.

Whether you love or hate the holiday, it’s inevitable – Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. Maybe you already have the perfect outfit and reservation booked to celebrate with your significant other. Or possibly, you’re avoiding thinking of the dreaded day at all costs. If you aren’t a big supporter of celebrating Cupid, you aren’t alone. But hey, at least chocolate will be on sale the day after! I myself am a huge fan of Valentine’s Day and a believer that there’s no reason you have to be in love to celebrate love this February. Even if you do have plans with a special someone, it can also be nice to celebrate the love you have for everyone else in your life. Try some of these fun ways to show your friends some love this Valentine’s Day.

1. Head to the Movies

There tends to be a few movies premiering around February 14th, but these premieres aren’t exclusively for couples either. This year, my top pick is ‘Isn’t It Romantic’ starring Priyanka Chopra, Tom Ellis, Liam Hemsworth, Betty Gilpin, Rebel Wilson, Adam Devine and many more which is coming out right before Valentine’s. The movie’s plot seems similar to last years’ ‘Trainwreck’ starring Amy Schumer, but looks hilarious nonetheless and would be a great chance to chill and have a laugh with friends.

2. Get Brunch

One of my favorite options for celebrating Galentine’s Day is brunch, because then if you or your friends who have plans later at night, you can still come share in the love in the morning as well. Make a plan to dress in red and pink to add an extra level of festivity to the morning as well!

3. Binge-watch the Bachelor

I can’t think of any show that screams Valentine’s day more than the Bachelor. If you’re not caught up on this season, why not take the opportunity to follow Colton’s journey to find love. If you’re like me, and have been watching religiously already, choosing an old season to tune into can be a fun way to see how the show has involved with the growth of social media and people popping up who aren’t here for the right reasons.

4. Support a Charity of Choice

Why not spread the love by helping out those in need this Valentine’s? Gather up some friends and head out to do some good! If you need a suggestion, Cupid’s Undie Run helps fundraise for NF all in the theme of Valentine’s Day, so why not check them out.

5. Watch a Rom-Com

Last but not least, indulge in a classic Galentine’s. Pull out your favorite flannel pj’s, a huge bowl of chocolates and turn on your favorite romantic comedy. Laugh, cry and relax with your best buds and a film with the most adorably cheesy lines you can think of.

Really, it doesn’t matter how you celebrate Galentine’s Day. It’s all about having fun with your friends, being around those you love and reminding them why you love them. So try out one of these celebrations, or an idea of your own devising and make this Valentine’s Day one you won’t forget!
