Lifestyle Blog: Ask For What You Want!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Leeds chapter.

Imagine if relationships were as simple as ordering food. You know what you want and, more importantly, you ask for it:

”I’m not having the no-strings-attached because I had that a few weeks ago and had a bad reaction to the drama that comes with it. I’m craving long-term commitment so I’ll have to order a romantic relationship. Hold the mayo. Does it come with clichés on the side? Maybe we can share a meeting-the-parents-over-Christmas for dessert if we’re still hungry?”

Instead we stalk ex-boyfriends, girlfriends, friends and their friends looking for information. We play it ‘cool’, except playing it cool isn’t actually cool at all. After dropping hints, there is a strong chance you are often left somewhere deep in the friend zone wondering where the wires got crossed.

#NOTETOSELF The truth is, this is probably impossible in reality.

It comes back to don’t hate the player, hate the game – and we do. But secretly in the same way we hate Haagen Dazs. We indulge anyway and then consequently agonise over whether Pralines and Cream was actually the right flavour, and why does ice cream have to be so bad for you (never-text-back)?
