It has been a tradition for as long as I can remember for my mom and me to watch the Macy’s Day Parade on Thanksgiving morning. I always look forward to watching this while my mom begins cooking the turkey in the kitchen, with fall-scented candles warmly lit in each room. I am nineteen now, yet I still enjoy this special tradition I share with her, and cannot wait to watch the balloons and performers make their way down the bustling streets of New York City

Balloons

When I was little, I would be so entranced by the enormous balloons that took over the sky. My favorite balloon is Snoopy, because who doesn’t love Snoopy? It is incredibly interesting to hear about how much time it took to make these balloons, along with how many people and strings it takes to hold them up.

Performances

I have always been intrigued by the dancers and singers, and am easily mesmerized by their work. The performances from dance groups like the Rockettes, and musical theater groups are usually my favorite aspects of these parades. These performers have so much talent and I love to watch and listen while prepping for the Thanksgiving feast.

Childhood Memories

The main reason why I enjoy the Macy’s Day Parade so much is the nostalgia it brings me. As soon as I hear the announcers, see the crowds of excited people, and watch the performances taking place, I am sent back to my childhood. I am in the same house I grew up in while watching, and normally it is on for background sound as I spend time with my mom and grandma.

Santa Claus

Last, but definitely not least, Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus. When they make their way down the street, you know it is time for the holiday season to officially make its way into our lives. We can officially start listening to the holiday music and begin watching our favorite winter movies.

Overall, watching the Macy’s Day Parade is a great way to spend your Thanksgiving morning, and also to prepare for the holiday season.
