What American Girl Doll Are You Based On Your Major

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lasell chapter.

Over the summer I reignited my childhood obsession with American Girl Dolls. Initially, it started with listening to the American Girls podcast and joining their discord group. Before long I found myself checking out stacks of American Girl Doll books from the library and creating American Girl-themed cross stitches. Suffice it to say, I’ve completely immersed myself, and to quote the words of one wise young woman, “I think I know more about American Girl Dolls than you do genius”. That’s why I feel completely qualified to tell you which American Girl I think you are based on your major.

STEM

I’m lumping all of STEM together for this category. I do this only because I know our girl Kaya would excel in any STEM field. While she was born in 1755, I know she would absolutely kill it in any environmental science. Kaya is a girl of action and a born leader. I can absolutely see her becoming a founder of a revolutionary tech business.

Political Science

I’m sorry if this is controversial, but Molly McIntire is a political science major. She’s incredibly patriotic, feisty, and ready to overpower anyone in a debate. Molly is a born leader and I can absolutely see her running for office. I will say I could be convinced otherwise if someone had a strong argument…

Education

If education is your passion, Addy Walker is your girl. Despite all Addy had been through, she makes efforts to selflessly improve the lives of those around her. She teaches her mother to read and even dreams of being a teacher herself. Pair that with her stellar intellect, and any school would be blessed to have her as a teacher.

Journalism

You already know who it is if you know anything about American Girl. Kit Kittredge is a journalist through and through. She writes her own newspapers and even does some photography to help those around her. Her books are an absolutely joyful read for anyone interested in writing. I absolutely need a follow-up series about an undergraduate Kit going to work and traversing the journalistic world.

Social Work

I’ll be honest I don’t know much about this major, but it called to me when considering Josefina. Firstly, she is absolutely devoted to putting others’ happiness before herself. On top of that, she has an extremely caring and kind personality. I can see her doing any kind of work healing and helping others such as therapy, social work, or even medicine.

Theater

This is a no-brainer. Rebecca is obsessed with acting and becoming a star. She loves to be in the spotlight and is filled with confidence. If she doesn’t go straight to performing, I think if she spent time in college she would be a full-blown drama kid.

Gender and Sexuality Studies

Thriving in the 1970s and a strong feminist, there’s no doubt that Julie Albright is going to an all-women’s school to study. At her young age, she is already versed in the vocabulary of the movement and strategies for social change like petitioning.

Legal Studies

If you have a dream of changing the world through the power of the law, you might be Samantha. Samantha is rocked when she learns of the harsh conditions her friend Nelly has to face as a child worker in a factory. I believe she would harness this internal spark to become a fantastic lawyer. And let’s be honest, she has the money to pay for law school.

Event Management

Ok, this is a deep cut, but I think event management majors would find a lot in common with Kirsten. Kirsten can both create and deal with the chaos in her busy household. When St. Lucia’s Day is at risk, she pulls off a crazy scheme to make sure her family can have festivities.

While I wasn’t able to include every girl or major, I highly encourage you to go embrace your inner child and read the series. You’ll find inspiring stories of young women who will re-spark your love for life and drive you to try new things.
