The Sustainable Comsetic Brand We Should Be Talking About: Elate Cosmetics

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lasell chapter.

Beauty and suitability seem to be contradictory, but this isn’t true.

Recently, Elate Cosmetics has been getting a lot of hype online for being a sustainable cosmetic brand with amazing quality products. Elate Cosmetics is a brand that is cruelty-free, vegan, nontoxic, and low waste packing. Elate Cosmetics is changing the beauty industry with its sustainable mission.

One of the most unique things about the brand is how they choose to package their products. The beauty industry is known for necessarily plastic packaging and boxes, however, the majority of Elate’s containers are made out of bamboo or metal. They source the bamboo for their packing from a fair trade verified seller in China. Bamboo is a sustainable source because it is natural to the environment in China and is readily accessible, bamboo trees are also not over-harvested through their supplier. This makes it a great alternative to other packagings like plastic or other types of wood.

They have any makeup item you can think of from lipstick to the foundation to eyeshadow. All their products are wheat-free and palm oil-free, however, they may contain nuts and soy so read the ingredients. Many people are concerned about the ethics of Mica because of the labor surrounding them, however, they source tehri Mica from fair trade who are a part of the Responsible Mica Initiative. About 75% of their ingredients are organic, which allows them to keep a lot of dangerous ingredients out of their beauty products.

The products are moderately priced at an Ulta or Sephora price range, which makes sense because they responsibly source their products. The price ranges from around $20-$40, which is very economical.

What is your favorite sustainable beauty brand?
