Our Go- To Guide on How to Start Your Own Food Blog on Instagram

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lasell chapter.

Starting my own food blog on Instagram was one of the best decisions ever. As someone who loves food and is constantly taking pictures of it, this was a great way for me to a) get all the photos out of my camera roll and b) challenge myself to try new restaurants and foods. This is also another creative way of expressing yourself. I love to edit the photos I’ve taken and posted them on my page. There’s nothing more satisfying than sharing something that you love doing with others. In this article, I’m going to share some of my secrets for taking pictures and editing your photos as well as a little hack for posting your photos.

Taking the perfect pictures

Just like taking a selfie, you have to find the right angle. If you have a logo on a plate or cup, make sure to capture it in the photo while also showing what’s on the plate or cup. If there are no logos on the plate or cup, angle your phone/camera so that points directly at what you’re taking a picture of. If you can’t capture everything in the shot, take a few photos of the plates.

Editing photos

I love to use VSCO to edit my photos. I find that using a preset that really brightens the photo and makes the colors pop is the best way to go. Using a filter that shows all the colors vividly is also a great way of pulling in new followers.

Posting hack

My favorite way to post photos is by using the app Bettr. This is an app where you can schedule your posts on certain days and at certain times and it posts automatically to your account. I schedule my posts a few days in advance so all I have to do is check my account during the week. This really helps especially when you’re busy with school like I am. I don’t have to worry about posting on time. Bettr does it for you!
