Nightly Self Care with HC Writer, Jade

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lasell chapter.

I believe you should feel your calmest at night. This is the time of day right before you perform your most important performance, sleep! You have to get that beautiful mind and body at its most comfortable and relaxed. Here are my tips for a self-love night:

1. Put on Some Jammy Jams!

Just like when you put music on to get ready, put some music on when you’re winding down. Party in the morning equals party at bedtime too.

2. Hygiene

Taking a warm or hot shower before bed is a sleeping spell for the body. Plus, you go to bed smelling so good, you know you’re going to have a beautiful sleep. Brushing your teeth helps too, plus it keeps your smile healthy and feeling fresh.

3. Skincare or Haircare

Whether you are just putting on lotion to keep your body moisturized or have a skincare routine, continue to apply this routine. It adds on to that very important hygiene regimen and allows you to continue to take care of your body. Speaking of body, haircare at night helps to manifest what tomorrow’s hair will bring. Whether that’s doing hair protective styles for natural curls, using satin bonnets or pillowcases, or brushing your hair before bed, you should be showing your hair some love.

4. Comfy Pajamas

You felt cute in your winter outfit earlier, so why not feel cute in your pajamas? Feeling comfortable and stylish in your pajamas adds onto the self-love you’ve already been showing yourself. You can do this in either matching pajama sets, or my personal favorite, oversized cotton shirts. This will benefit your sleep performance as you are comfy and cozy.

5. Night Activities

Watching a movie before bed? Yes! Reading or doodling before bed? Yes! Doing homework? Absolutely not! Close your laptop and enjoy some “me time”.

As Donna and Tom from Parks and Rec said, “treat yo self”. Self care at night is crucial for a better you, both today and tomorrow. You deserve it!
