When it comes to dating and going out as a cis latina woman, straight men are definitely something to observe. I like to use these first time hangouts and meetings as a free subscription trial to experience how they are. From those experiences I rounded up my personal icks and red flags.

Icks

  1. When he says “I’m sowwy”

I’m sorry are you in your terrible twos or terrible twenties

  1. When he calls me “mamacita”
  1. When he thinks he speaks better Spanish and butchers every word

I might be a no sabo kid but at least I don’t sound as broken as dollar tree headphones

  1. When his favorite song is Dance Monkey

I’m sorry I have an extreme dislike for this song and other corporate commercial songs

  1. When he says he likes latinas cause we’re “spicy” or “exotic”

I’m sorry the last time I checked I am not a sauce nor an animal from the Bronx Zoo

Red flags

  1. When he’s still friends with an ex/situationship

Unless you have a kid with that person, there should be no reason you are friends with them.

  1. When he’s too much of a mama’s boy (unhealthy mama’s boy)
  2. When he talks about how attractive other women are in front of you
  3. When he looks to his friends for validation on everything
  4. When he fetishizes you
  5. When he’s insecure
  6. When he gets upset easily
  7. When he doesn’t like to hangout with your friends & family, but expects you to do the same for him.
  8. When he doesn’t put effort in dates, but he’ll go all out for his friends
  9. When he doesn’t try to understand your interests & hobbies
  10. When he expects you to pay

These are just my personal opinions on icks and red flags based on my experiences. In my romantic life, I have a certain list of green flags that I stick to, in order to weed out the bad apples of the bunch. Maybe you agree with the icks and maybe not, and that’s okay!
