How to Rock Taking Six Classes

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lasell chapter.

So, you’ve decided to take six classes this semester. At Lasell, you can take from four to six classes every semester if you want to. Since you just added that minor, you figure it might be good to take six classes to get ahead.

But now, you’re panicking.

Here’s how to handle taking six classes during the semester and STILL get A’s. And yes, it is possible.

  1. Make sure your schedule works in your favor. Space out your classes enough so you have plenty of time to do work, but don’t space them out too much. If you can, try to get one day off a week or a day with only one class. That will really help you to have time to do your homework. And if you have an hour in between your classes on Mondays and Wednesdays, you’ll have an hour of working time.

  2. Utilize your planner as much as possible. Write your homework assignments in there, when your classes are, if you have a cancelled class, or if you have any kind of meeting or other plan that day. Then you’ll know exactly what you need to do that day. Besides a planner, you can also keep a to-do list that has all of your assignments for the week listed, as well as assignments for the future so you know what will be due soon.

  3. Do your work. This is an easy one. If you want to get good grades, get your work done. Bring your books with you so you can study in between classes. Sit down at your desk in the afternoon, put your headphones on and try to get two things done a day, at least.

  4. Make time for yourself. If you spend every minute of the day working on homework for your classes, you’re going to eventually burn out and feel awful. Take an hour and relax by watching one (and only one) episode of Netflix. You can call your mom, or take a power nap. But if you make TOO MUCH time for yourself, you’re going to get stressed because you won’t have any work done.

  5. Get enough sleep. If you don’t sleep, you don’t work. You can’t run on coffee and fumes for the whole semester. If you find yourself falling asleep on your homework, GO TO BED. You need sleep to survive physically and mentally, and you can’t get A’s if you don’t get at least a few hours of sleep every night.

Good luck students! Now, stop procrastinating and get your work done.
