The Five Most Expensive Teddy Bears in the World

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lasell chapter.

Today, you can find teddy bears anywhere for an affordable price. It is hard to believe that there are teddy bears out there for more than $20, but there are some out there that are worth millions.

Here is a list of the top five most expensive teddy bears in the world:

1. Steiff & Louis Vuitton Bear ($2.1 million)

The stuffed toy company, Steiff, collaborated with Louis Vuitton in 2000 to create the Louis Vuitton teddy bear. The bear is dressed up in a Louis Vuitton logo outfit and even comes with a mini Louis Vuitton logo suitcase. It sold at a Monaco charity auction the same year for $2.1 million and now belongs to the Teddy Bear Museum in Korea.

2. Steiff Teddy Girl Bear (£110,000)

The Teddy Girl bear was gifted to Bob Henderson, a Colonel in the British Army, on the day he was born. He had the bear all throughout childhood and even brought it to war with him. Henderson founded Good Bears of the World, a charity that gives bears to sick children and became President of the Teddy Bear Club. The bear was put up for auction in 1994 after he passed and sold for £110,000.

3. Steiff Titanic Mourning Bear £91,750

After the Titanic sank in 1912, Steiff produced just 600 bears to remember the tragedy. They had multiple sizes but only produced 82 bears measuring 20 inches tall. One of the bears was sold at Christie’s in London to the Puppenhaus Museum in Switzerland.

4. Steiff Rod Bear PB28 (£82,000)

The rod bear by Steiff was created in 1904 and was the first bear to appear for sale. At the annual Steiff festival in Germany in 2002, this original bear was auctioned off for £82,000.

5. Steiff Harlequin Bear (£60,000)

A single sample of the color block bear was created by Steiff in 1925 and is the only one that still exists today. A collector by the name of Paul Greenwood purchased the bear at an auction at the annual Steiff festival in Germany for £60,000.
