Toast is a staple breakfast food we all know and love. But, you have to admit, plain toast with butter can get a little boring. Wondering how to spice it up? Look no further, here are 5 different ways to make toast more exciting:

  1. Nutella, Bananas, and Chopped Peanuts

This kind of toast is the perfect combination of sweet and salty. My advice: toast a thick piece of sourdough with a little butter either in the oven or on the stovetop, this will help contrast the softness of the Nutella and the bananas, offsetting the crunchy peanuts on top in a great way.

  1. Ricotta, Strawberries, Basil, and Honey

I would also recommend a thick, crusty slice of bread for this toast. Mix ricotta, salt, pepper, and some lemon zest in a small bowl. Spread that combination on the toast, then top with strawberries, basil leaves, and drizzle with honey. The perfect sweet and tangy mix!

  1. Pesto and Avocado

Take a slice of bread and spread pesto on it. Then drizzle it with olive oil and lemon juice, and add some of your favorite seasonings. Top with slices of avocado, basil leaves, shredded parmesan cheese, and pine nuts. This is a great twist on a classic avocado toast recipe.

  1. Maple Cream Cheese, Bacon, and Blueberries

Combine some softened cream cheese with a little maple syrup to create a sweet mixture. Spread that on thick, crusty bread, and add crumbled bacon and blueberries. Crunchy, salty, and sweet, what could be better?

  1. Broccoli and Cheese

Steam some broccoli (about 5 minutes), put some shredded cheese on your favorite bread, and broil in the oven for 3-5 minutes. You’ll be left with a cheesy, savory treat! Season with salt and pepper and make it a meal by adding some baked chicken, or just have it as a snack! Either way, it’s delicious.

There are hundreds of other ways to make toast a little more special, but these recipes are a great place to get started! Sweet or savory, which is your favorite combination? Let us know in the comments!
