The 2018 Olympics Are Full Of Firsts For USA – Here’s Just A Few

What has turned out to be a very eventful Olympic games in Pyeongchang has also held a lot of firsts across the board for team USA, from veterans and newcomers alike:

 

SKATING

Mirai Nagasu had an incredible performance as part of the figure skating team event, which included landing a triple axel. This made her the only woman to land a triple axel at the Olympics. EVER.

In the speed skating short track event, John-Henry Kruegger took home a silver medal, which was the first speed skating medal of the 2018 Olympics for the US.

 

SNOWBOARDING

One of the most talked about newcomers to the Olympics this year has been Chloe Kim, the 17-year-old snowboarder who won first place for team USA, making her the youngest woman to win snowboarding gold in the history of the Olympics.

 

LUGE

Not only did he win silver, but Chris Mazdzer was the first athlete to win an Olympic medal in men’s single luge for the United States.

 

SKIING

Jessica Diggins and Kikkan Randall changed history for the US’s Olympic team by becoming the first women to win gold in cross-country skiing.

Way to go team USA! The 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics will be continuing the coming week with the closing ceremony scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 25 at 6 a.m. EST.
