The Icon Is Back: Kate Moss x Topshop

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lancaster chapter.

The Kate Moss X Topshop collaboration has finally launched and it has reminded us of the exact reason as to how she earned the title as an “icon”.

In May 2007, Kate Moss made her debut by launching her own line that lasted for three years, until November 2010. Whilst most of us clung to the precious pieces that were designed by the supermodel, the rest were clinging on to the hope that she would make a comeback and four years down the line, we welcome her. And boy, did she get a welcome.

As swarms of people gathered around Topshop’s Oxford Street flagship store, spilling over into the road of the busy high street, stopping oncoming traffic, it was made apparent that on Tuesday the 29th of May 2014 at around 6pm, this was the place to be. True to form, the supermodel, with friend and presenter Nick Grimshaw, took to the stage to greet the hoards of fans that were eager for a sneak preview of the anticipated collection, before it went live online the morning of the next day.

Through the line, we are invited to dive into the supermodel’s style, a style that one swoons over day in and day out. From tailored pieces and evening gowns to boho chic smock dresses, it’s as if there are pieces to cater to everyone’s taste. Oh, and don’t forget the tassles. Lots of tassles. After all, this is Kate Moss’s collection is it not?

With a total of 40 pieces, not only has it been made available to a wide audience, it has also been made with items to suit any occasion. Still haven’t found that dress for your Graduation Ball? No problem, Kate Moss has it sorted for us – with choices from short block coloured dresses to a stunning silver evening gown which oozes radiance; this is the ensemble that we saw her in for the celebration after party. Have you just booked a festival and already want to get summer-ready? Again, not to worry, this is a particular style that this lady excels in so of course we are invited share her renowned festival attire, with embroidered smock dress, kimonos and tunics – take your pick!

This collaboration has made the four year wait worthwhile and what’s more refreshing, is that even with the expensive price tag, we are not just buying into a piece of clothing that has been labelled by Moss, instead we are buying into something much more than that. We are buying into a piece that has clearly been cleverly crafted into the must-have items that we have applauded her for many years now. Am I correct in saying that the icon has almost definitely returned?
