Campus Cutie: Denis Campbell

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lancaster chapter.

This week, I caught up with Denis Campbell, a third year student currently on his Study Abroad year in Spain.

Year: 3rd Year

Age: 21

Degree: German & Spanish Studies

Hometown: Belfast, Northern Ireland

Relationship Status: Single

Hi Denis, how do you feel to be this week’s campus cutie?

I don’t know what to say! Quite chuffed I guess!

Can you tell me a bit about what you’re doing on your year abroad?

I’m working as an English Language Assistant in a primary school in Almería, in the south of Spain. It’s good fun; it’s even better that it’s always warm and I live 2 minutes from the beach!

What do you like most about being on a year abroad?

The weather! It’s so nice to finish work at 2pm and then head to the beach for the afternoon. That and the siesta… You can’t beat a good nap.

What’s the best thing about living in Spain?

The cheap food and drink! In Almería, every drink you buy comes with a small plate of food. It’s immense!

What advice would you give to students planning a year abroad?

Don’t get too worked up about it! I remember spending the summer panicking that no-one would understand me, and I wouldn’t understand anyone, but you pick up the language really quickly!

What do you miss about Lancaster?

My friends! I miss nights out with my mates and British TV!

Have you got any plans for after you graduate?

I’m going to study for a PGCE in Primary Education. Fingers crossed!

On to the guys:

What’s your usual type?

That’s a hard one. I like someone who doesn’t take themselves too seriously and who knows how to make me laugh.

What’s your best chat up line?

I hate chat up lines! I try to use my Irish accent to charm.

Who is your celebrity crush?

Olly Murs.

What’s your biggest turn off?

People who think they’re better than others.

Where would you go for the perfect date?

Something simple, a walk along the beach or in a park and then for coffee/dinner. Things are better simple!

On to some more quirky questions:

What’s the best gift you’ve ever received?

My mum bought me a car for Christmas when I was 17. Hard to top that!

What would you never be seen without?

My phone.

If you won a million pounds tomorrow what would you do?

Give some to charity and my mum and then buy myself a nice car.

How would you describe yourself in 3 words?

Fun, Irish, excitable.

If you were hosting a dinner party, which three people: fictional, dead and alive would you invite and why?

My dad because he passed away when I was younger and it would be nice to see him again.

President Obama the living legend.

Miranda Hart for comedy value.

If you could have a superpower, which one would you choose and why?

To be able to fly. I’d never have to pay for flights again!

Where do you hope to be in ten years’ time?

Hopefully, I’ll be working as a teacher and will be on my way to having my own family.

Think fast:

Dream Job: Teacher

Favourite Restaurant: Nando’s

Favourite Movie: She’s not that into you.

Favourite Actor: Sandra Bullock

Favourite Music Artist: Mumford and Sons
