Over the past two decades, we have been fortunate enough as a society to be bestowed with Lana Del Rey’s vocals and glorious imagery painted through her series of records. Every album that she has released has a completely different, yet Lana feel. Whether you heard of Lana years back, or are just now discovering her artistry, I’m sure you have an album or two that you find yourself listening to more than others. Or maybe you have a certain album for a different mood (I know I do!). Having a little fun with that idea, and appreciating Lana in the wake of her new album Blue Banisters being released on October 22nd, I dove into what (hypothetically) your favorite album of hers says about you.

Of course, these are all just fun interpretations based on the overall “vibes” of the albums. Lyrically and emotionally, her work goes much deeper than these surface-level assumptions.

Lana Del Ray AKA Lizzy Grant

You definitely have a certain taste for things, but you are still discovering that taste. If someone asked you for an artist to listen to, you would probably know a bunch of obscure ones right off the bat. I mean, like real obscure, not fake obscure, but completely unknown. No one really knows what you’re about, but they want to know what you’re about, because you’re intriguing, new, and refreshing in the ideas you bring to the table and in friendships or relationships. You have a sultry undertone, but on the exterior, you’re really forward and bubbly. You have a lot of confidence, and people gravitate towards your energy.

There’s also a good possibility that you probably only listen to The Beatles when you have to, because you honestly like their solo careers better. You just get it in a way no one else does.

Born to Die

What was the last movie you watched? Was it a Marilyn Monroe one? Or Grace Kelly? No? Perhaps a rewatch of The Great Gatsby or Jackie. Whatever the case, you certainly are someone who reminisces and finds an odd sense of comfort in old-timey, fictional stories. You find something soul-lifting in the story of a good, old movie, and it’s hard to explain, but you just get what makes it beautiful and “a classic.”

You desire a life that is something more than what the present can provide you. You’re a hopeless romantic at heart, envisioning endless perfect, slightly reckless scenarios, but you are someone who knows what you want in that sense. Maybe your previous romantic experiences haven’t been fulfilling, but you can’t help but reminisce on that person in your life; giving them more credit than they deserve for their role in your life. You ultimately use previous influences to inspire new ones.

You’re likely slightly mysterious, but bold in how you present yourself through clothing. No one knows what to expect from you, since you’re this ever-adapting and imaginative force.

Paradise

You keep things short and sweet. You don’t like a lot of attachment to certain aspects in your life, so you might be floating between things frequently, not giving too much of yourself away in the process.

You know how to be there for yourself when no one else is, and you know yourself so well because of this comfortability. When you are with people, you are unapologetically free at heart. You might fixate a bit on the past, or the possibilities of the future, more than you let on. You might have had one relationship that you can’t seem to let go of. Your nostalgia lies here, and in the thought of what could have been different, or what would be, if this person was still in your life.

I’m guessing that you surround yourself with people that are unapologetic in their ambitions and style too. You seek out people who see the best in you, and in return, you see the best in them. You’re not selective; you just know yourself well enough to know what you want out of friendships and relationships. Anyone who you let into your life, and gets to see your true self, is a very lucky person, and they know it.

Art museums or bookstores are probably your sanctuary, whether with other people or alone. You might dawdle through the exhibit or shelves, but you never leave with anything. You don’t need to; the experience, the adventure was found within the place you visited. That’s what you’re always seeking.

You embody so many things at once, and it’s just a matter of what you put out there. People aren’t necessarily intimidated by this understanding you have locked in of yourself, and your wants, but inspired and admire your ability to be secure with your position in life and the future.

I also just genuinely feel like your dream car is a convertible, and your dream date would be going to a drive in a movie theatre.  Before driving down the coastline of California to a setting sun.

Ultraviolence

You’re from somewhere that makes you feel lonely, so you spend a lot of time envisioning life elsewhere. Ready to grow out of this chapter that you’ve been living in for so long.

You’re definitely mysterious, and because you’re still discovering your interests and tastes. You don’t let a lot of people in on your fantasies for your life, both personal and romantic. Either you’ve had a series of experiences romantically that have evoked this deep sense of understanding in yourself, or you’re yearning for them. When you do get them, you will be a fulfilling partner.

There’s a good chance as well that you were on Tumblr in 2014 (and maybe still are). You might also be able to debate someone really good on the controversies surrounding movies and literature like The Crush and Lolita. Meaning, you just have an endless amount of knowledge, and a thirst to expand your understanding of things that aren’t normally of interest for others.

Mostly, you aren’t afraid to be open about how you feel, and let’s be real, what you feel is deep. But, because of this, you give really good advice even if you haven’t specifically experienced certain things.

Honeymoon

You are in search of a deeper meaning in everything and are appreciative of the most simple aspects of the world’s and people’s beauty. You’re a wild card, in the sense that what you appear is not what you actually are. Your favorite thing to do in the spring and summer is taking long walks on the beach, or around your town, losing track of time as you have a thoughtful conversation with someone or yourself.

There’s a good chance that you have deleted your social media on a whim before without telling anyone. You come back to it eventually, but then there’s another period of your life where you eradicate from your life again. You’re also definitely very encouraging of the idea with people in your life too. People don’t see the benefits of experiencing life for life, like you do.

You probably use a tote bag instead of a purse or backpack. And, if asked to show what was in the contents of that bag, you would probably reveal a collection of poems, whether by T.S Elliot or Slyvia Plath, but then of course a journal with some of your own. If not a collection of poems, a good second guess would be paintbrushes and a sketchbook. I’d also guess you probably have a vintage or disposable camera at hand too, because again, you’re about living outside of screens and “in the moment.”

Lust For Life

In your free time, you probably read Joan Didion and listen to the live music from Woodstock. You reminisce about the past, like your Born to Die counterpart, but you’re thoughtful in the extent you embody those times. You’re an old soul in many ways, but although everyone seems to be certain of who you are, there are times you feel like you’re floating down a lone road alone.

Maybe you’ve dabbled with tarot cards and crystals, or are just straight out doing witchcraft, either way, you embrace your spiritual journey to “finding yourself.”

Summer doesn’t feel quite like it did when you were a child. You’re always chasing a feeling, or the idea of a moment of something that’s happened or you believe will come. Ultimately, you’re along for the ride. You try not to think too much about everything going on around you, but you get caught in the thick of the conversation a lot of times. You crave more from life, but you aren’t sure what.

Norman Fucking Rockwell!

You’re probably navigating the remains of a tangled relationship. You’re both troubled by past experiences, and who you were in them, as much as you are by what they have made you. Even if you’re not coming out of a relationship, you feel that you’ve lost a part of yourself, or position in the world, and you’re desperately retracing your steps to understand where the person you used to be vanished and the person you are now entered.

One thing’s for sure: You are secure in your womanhood, however, and you are sure of your feelings towards the person or people who may have been in your life before. You don’t take anyone’s bullshit, and for good reason. You know yourself, and you can understand people’s motives now with like a sixth sense. People won’t ever say it, but they revere you for this deep consciousness surrounding life.

There’s that delicate side of you, underneath this exterior brashness, that you want to protect. You articulate it in less conventional ways, maybe through art, poetry, writing, or indirect social media posts.

Summer is the season you feel most sure of yourself, although you blossom through everyone miraculously. Carole King’s Tapestry and Joni Mitchell’s For the Roses play on repeat usually, familiar comforting albums, and you can’t bring yourself to listen to anything different.

Chemtrails Over The Country Club

You love to travel, but you also are good with where you are right now. You find solace in where you’re at right now, obviously you have visions of your future, but you surround yourself with things that bring you comfort and don’t get too caught up in your head about what you are or aren’t doing in the present.

Right now, you’re at a place in your life where you can see a wide, unpredictable future beyond anyone’s ideas of you, but at the same time, you could see your future as it is now. Meaning, you are just happy with who you surround yourself with and what you do on the daily. You have a great group of friends that you can envision looking back at photos with when you’re old, and you are just content with your current situation. Sure, there’s that part of you that’s always wanting something adventurous and new in your life, but when it comes in, you will welcome it. You are paused from chasing after things for the moment.

You’re a little rough around the edges but soft on the inside.

People ultimately admire you, because you are thoughtful of yourself, but you make no apologies for how you have grown. There’s something special about you, and sometimes you don’t see it in yourself, but others see it in you. You’re still growing, and you embrace that process, but your understanding of it is gradual. You are content with seeing how life at the moment takes you.
