In a digital age, it appears that podcasts haven’t really caught up with other forms of entertainment such as music and video streaming platforms. However, I think podcasts are fun to listen to, and I recommend that everyone gives them a chance.

I used to think the Podcast app that comes with every phone as one of those random apps that you put in a folder and never use. One day, though, I discovered Spotify’s podcast section and was captivated. Now, I listen to podcasts every day: while I go about my morning routine, exercise, cook, and do just about everything. I find it both relaxing and engaging to listen to someone recall funny life stories, give advice, or speak about a topic they’re really passionate about.

No matter what type of person you are, there is a podcast out there that will get you hooked. There are so many different types of podcast content creators across Spotify, Apple Music, and the Podcast app; from true crime aficionados  to relationship experts to aspiring politicians to comedians, you are guaranteed to find a person whom you enjoy listening to.

With all that said, here are a few of my favorite podcasts at the moment:

  1. Crying in Public: a weekly podcast hosted by Sydni and Sarah, two college women in their twenties who live in New York City. I have been listening to this podcast since the beginning, and I love how genuinely funny and honest Sydni and Sarah are. Listening to them feels like talking to your older sisters who tell great stories and have the best advice.
  2. Anything Goes with Emma Chamberlain: Like many, I am obsessed with Emma Chamberlain for her aesthetic life, unique sense of style, and overall personality. I love Emma’s podcast because of the vulnerability she shows her listeners, which reminds me that she is like any other human with lots of complex emotions. I also love Anything Goes because Emma is wise beyond her years and gives advice on a wide range of topics, from body image and relationships to outfits and gifting.
  3. Miss Congeniality with Eli Rallo: Eli Rallo, aka @thejarr on TikTok, posts “rules”: rules for this week, rules for Sundays, rules for breakups, etc. I recently discovered her podcast, and I have been listening to it nonstop. Eli is funny, relatable, and so uplifting. If you’re unfamiliar with her, start with the episode, “Elevate THIS girl instead of becoming THAT GIRL.” She gives thoughtful insight into the movement of people trying to become “that girl”- the green juice-spin class-lululemon set-satin pajama girl, and how that type of person is often attainable and unnecessary to emulate.

Happy listening!
