25 ULV Women and their Thoughts on the Election

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at La Verne chapter.

With the results from Super Tuesday, we are discouraged by the frontrunners of this race, so we decided to see who other students are planning to vote for.

The Her Campus team surveyed 25 La Verne collegiettes on what they think about the current presidential race. Check out the results!

All survey participants were between age 18 and 22 and 18 of the 25 are registered to vote.

We asked them to rank how up-to-date they are with the current nominees on a scale of 1 to 10.  Luckily, La Verne has some knowledgeable women with 19 of them ranking at a 7 or above.

Seventeen of them plan on voting for Bernie Sanders, three for Hilary and five aren’t sure or will not be voting.

The topics that rank most important for more than 80 percent of the students are LGBTQ issues, gun control and abortion. Global warming and foreign policy also made the top list.

We are proud to say that La Verne women, at least the majority that we surveyed, are aware of the issues of today and are proud to have a voice.

Thankfully, hateful speech was kept out of loop in this survey and we found our collegiettes to be full of love and intelligence, but no big surprise there.

One of the responses we received sums up why you should vote, perfectly: “Yes I will vote, my voice matters!”

And we couldn’t agree more.

According to statistics releases by Statistics Brain those between the age of 65 to 74 or who have an income of more than $100,000 vote the most. But why let them make the decision that will effect us and our children?

The primaries matter too, not just the general election; however, many people don’t even know they can vote in them! But, you must be registered by Monday May 23 and if you plan on voting for Hillary or Bernie, you have to be registered as a Democrat or undeclared. We know, the whole process is confusing and new to many of us, so for more info on where and how to vote go here: http://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/where-and-how

With your help we can elect someone our generation will be happy to call our POTUS.

So go ahead collegiettes, don’t be afraid to BE HEARD.
