I’m not an avid gamer by any means. I have played a variety since I was a kid, and lately, I mostly play games that are atmospheric and have a good story. I’m very picky with my choices of games; if it’s only combat, I don’t get emotionally invested and therefore I get bored very easily. However, there’s a few games that are coming out in the next year or so that I’m excited for, and not all of them even have a story!

  1. Stray

Easily the most enthralling thing about this game for me is that you get to play as a cat. I adore cats, so when I saw this trailer I jumped on the bandwagon immediately. Stray is a game about a lost cat wandering a run-down city full of human looking machines. It’s a beautiful looking game and I’m excited to immerse myself into this world through the eyes of a lost cat. This game is set to release in early 2022 as of now on platforms such as PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Microsoft Windows.

  1. Slime Rancher 2

The first Slime Rancher game means a lot to me because in the early days of COVID-19 I impulsively purchased the game on Steam. It’s always been a cute game I’ve used to cheer myself up with the sudden shift in the world. I bought the game and would play it in my free time when I wasn’t doing school assignments. Not only is it a cute game, but it’s very fun! You play as a rancher named Beatrice who captures wild slimes on a strange planet to develop a ranch. It’s a soothing, fun game so imagine my surprise when I found out there is a second one coming out! This game does loosely have a story, but it’s not mandatory to play it and it’s one I’m not familiar with because I’m way more excited about collecting bunny slimes and bat slimes. It will come out in 2022 on similar platforms like Microsoft Windows, Xbox Series X and Series S.

  1. Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles

I love the anime, Demon Slayer, and I’m so excited for the next season to come out by the end of this year! In the meantime, this Demon Slayer video game comes out October 15th on platforms such as Microsoft Windows, Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. It’s a fighting/adventure game, so if you’re into this anime but not into strictly combat like myself, there’s the adventure mode where you play through the events of the anime thus far. You can play as many characters from the beloved show, such as our main character Tanjiro Kamado, as well as Nezuko Kamado, Inosuke Hashibira, Zenitsu Agatsuma, and more.

Those are just a few up and coming games set to be released within the next year. They’re all very different genres so hopefully if you’re into video games at all, one of these will catch your interest and give you something to look forward to!
