My MAPC Weekend

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kutztown chapter.

I have such sad news, I’m graduating soon. My future may not be at KU and it really hit this past week as I had interview after interview at MAPC, is the Mid-Atlantic Placement Conference. Each interview showed me the smallest bit of a possible school that I may attend to earn my master’s degree. It’s crazy how my last semester is flying by, but I’m having the best time! I love my job in Res-Life as the ARD, I love going to things like MAPC, and I love all of my classes this semester! I wish I had more time at KU and I’ve been here for almost 5 years, however, it’s almost time I wrap this part of my life up and bring it with me to my next educational adventure. I’ve grown a lot and I still have more to do. I don’t ever want to stop learning, and coming to MAPC this past week really showed me that. I was the only student from KU who attended and I’m thankful because it helped me meet people I may have never met otherwise. Interviewing with a variety of different schools and people was fun! Some people may think I’m insane to love opportunities like this because there’s a lot of pressure, such as; prep work, non-stop smiling, and sometimes it’s just plain awkward. I may have not thrived in each interview, but I’m proud of each one of them. I’m excited to know where the next few years will lead me! I’m thankful for everyone that has gotten me here! But MAPC was just part of the process to becoming a graduate employee of res life at another university.

One of my favorite parts of MAPC was the prep work. I made a folder for each interview and I pre-labeled the front of the envelopes to my thank you cards. I loved using my label maker to organize and show other schools how prepared I was. I even wore heels on the long day and if you know me, you know I don’t wear heels. My feet were throbbing, but I think it was worth it because coming in on day two wearing flats created a big height difference that I didn’t notice. To anyone who wants to have a future in Residence Life I strongly recommend going to MAPC and hopefully you can make sure your schedule is less busy than mine. Not only did I have 11 interviews, but I had my internship the second half on Friday for 5 hours and 7 hours on Saturday. Plus, Sunday was my senior exhibition. Last week was definitely busy, but I love weeks like that. I love to consistently go, go, go. It makes the week of not doing, so much more enjoyable because I appreciate it even more.
