With Halloween just around the corner, it’s always nice to kick back, relax, and watch your favorite Halloween special; especially the ones you loved since childhood. While most people are familiar with The Nightmare Before Christmas or Beetlejiuce, one Halloween gem that doesn’t get to shine more often is Scary Godmother. Scary Godmother is a Halloween TV film franchise based on the comics and children’s books of the same name by Jill Thompson. The franchise exists of two films, the first being the Halloween Spooktakular and its sequel, The Revenge of Jimmy. These films brought back comforting memories when I was a kid from the joys of searching the perfect treat to the hilarity of tricking one’s peers.
Seeing all the beloved characters always brought a smile on my face like the main witch herself Scary Godmother, Hannah Marie the creative brave girl, Jimmy the bully and Hannah’s cousin, the always hungry and dramatic werewolf Harry, Bug-a-Boo the literal party monster who hides under kids’ beds, and many more. Their adventures brought the imaginative magic of Halloween to life. All the spooky and human characters gather to celebrate the one hauntingly fun time of the year with a huge Halloween party! Along the way, many characters (except for Harry) learn valuable lessons such as facing your fears, don’t judge what you don’t know, looking at the bright side in a bad situation, and the consequences of being a poor party guest… again, that last bit goes to Harry the werewolf, ha ha! Once you hear the spooky jazz music of Scary Godmother, you’re in for a viewing pleasure. The animation maybe a little outdated, but it’s worth the binge watch.
