Back to school means back to busy schedules, hanging out with friends, and trying to get in shape. The problem a lot of students face is getting around campus, especially KU (ugh that hill). So what do you do if there is no spare car for you to take back to school? One word, finesse. I am a junior and I have NEVER had a car at school which totally blows, however, I have learned the art of finessing a ride. So here are my tips for getting around when you are too lazy to walk like me.

  1. Take the Bus: You might not be rolling in style on the big blue bus but hey it’s free. The KU bus has one of the worst websites for figuring out times and schedules but if you practice enough times it gets easier. I recommend taking the bus to class, the bars, and especially home. Waiting for the bus in the winter blows so bring a hat and ask for a car for Christmas.

  2. Uber: Uber is an obvious go-to when it comes to getting around. Yes, Uber is expensive and has some creeper drivers but there are also some cool people you meet along the way. Travel with a friend and check to make sure you get into the right vehicle. If you are really on a tight budget drunk friends will always be down to get the Uber and let you tag along.

  3. KU Bikes: I mean if you are into that kind of stuff…

  4. Make a friend: We all know the friend with the car is the most popular. If you ask nicely, maybe they will let you tag along, however, you do not want to be known for always needing a ride. Instead, go with your friend whenever they run their errands and get what you need. Make sure you do something nice for your friend every once and a while so they will continue to drive you around.

  5. Hitchhike: JK bad idea

And if you ever find yourself with no ride you could always walk…
