Rihanna, the Musican and Humanitarian

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at KU chapter.

Rihanna is the kind of artist that will be remembered in the future. She is also the type of person that will fight for the rights of others. This was shown in the Harvard Humanitarian Award she received.

Rihanna is being recognized for her foundation which helped build and oncology and nuclear medicine center in Bridgetown, Barbados. As an individual who follows Rihanna in her music career I was in love with the love I witnessed in Rihanna when she took her award. She didn’t try to be anyone she wasn’t, not even for Harvard.

“All you need to do is help one person, expecting nothing in return. To me, that is a humanitarian. People make it seem way too hard, man.”, said Rihanna in her speech. It was an honor to see Rihanna, a remarkably beautiful and strong black women take her award as herself and not an image created by politics of correctness.

Being a woman of color I know that there is certain expectation of the behavior that WOC must adhere to in postions of power. Rihanna not ony recieved an award, she earned it, will all her hard work , and that is why she was on that stage. She in no way began to do her work to be in a stage like Harvard but she got there. I hope to see many more wonderful and hardowrking WOC on that stage in the future.

Also I’m eager to see Rihanna in the many more amazing things she will create as a musician but also as a humanitarian.
