KU Mass Street Shopping Trip

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at KU chapter.

The ultimate Saturday afternoon for a KU girl: shopping on Massachusetts Street! Mass has all kinds
of stores, restaurants, and even artwork – there’s something for everyone in your group! Mass has everything from a homemade candle-making shop to an awesomely nerdy science store. Here’s a list of a few of my favorite stores on Mass!

Kansas Sampler: All things Kansas, all things KU. Shopping at the Sampler should definitely be on your list of priorities before game day. They have t-shirts, cups, posters, and any other Jayhawk-related décor. It’s the perfect place to get your Rock Chalk fix!

Prairie Patches: It’s one of my personal favorites because of the Vera Bradley merchandise. You can never have too many obnoxiously flowered quilted bags and Prairie Patches is the place to find them. They carry all kinds of fun, colorful knick-knacks that make a grand addition to any dorm room. Don’t forget to check out the sorority corner in the back of the store! They can personalize all kinds of wine glasses, towels, and even water bottles with Greek letters.

ACME: This store is the bomb-dot-com (yes, I still use that expression). You can make ANY t-shirt you want. If you can imagine it, you can put it on a t-shirt. You can find everything from the witty “I swear to drunk I’m not God” shirt to the forever romantic “Someone in Kansas loves me” shirt. Get those creative juices flowing, and make your own custom designed t-shirt at ACME!

After all of that shopping, you’re bound to work up an appetite! Mass offers a wide variety of restaurants. Noodles and Company, Buffalo Wild Wings, and Free State Brewing Co. are all popular places to eat. My personal favorite? The Burger Stand. Make sure you and your friends split a basket of truffle fries, they are a must-order. Yes, it’s greasy, but that only gives you an excuse to do more shopping to walk off those calories!

If you still have room for dessert after your meal (ahem, there’s always room for dessert), I suggest you make your way down to Sylas & Maddy’s homemade ice cream. Flavors include the Kansas Twister and Da’ Bomb among many other delicious concoctions. Tuesday nights are the best nights to get your fix. With your KU student ID, you get a BOGO deal. It’s the ideal Tuesday night study break for you and the girls.

I only listed a few of my favorite places on Mass, so it’s up to you explore the shops. Grab a few friends and head down to Mass! Whether you just walk around, or do some light shopping, it will be an entertaining time for everyone.
