How To Not Let Anxiety Get The Best of You

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at KU chapter.

If you’re like me, you suffer from major anxiety, even from the smallest daily things that someone else wouldn’t give a second thought. Maybe it’s going into a crowded coffee shop or maybe it’s trying to find a way to avoid going out with your friends for the night because the thought of going out into public where so many different things could happen makes your stomach turn upside down. In a nutshell, it’s not too fun.

So after a while of suffering, I found a few ways to help myself feel better throughout the day so hopefully my anxiety will not get the best of me, and now I want to share them with you ladies for some inspiration and maybe even better ways to cope!

I always have water on me, because when you’re dehydrated, it adds even more stress on your body and that added stress enhances the feel of anxiety, and we definitely don’t want that. I also just enjoy always having ice cold water at my hands for a refreshment. It’s definitely underrated.

Another thing I always do is always (and I stress always) have breakfast in the morning. Even if you’re running late for class, heat something up really quick and run out the door with it.

When I was in high school, I would avoid breakfast because I would be too anxious about school. I learned that an empty stomach on top of anxiety is not a good combination at all and it’s better to eat something to soothe your stomach slightly in the mornings. Even when anxiety makes you feel nauseous, a nice morning breakfast surprisingly soothes the nerves.

Lastly, I always go out with people who I’m comfortable with. I know I’ll have a good time and won’t want to worry about anything when I’m hanging out with my friends, knowing that I won’t regret that I went out. Life is short, and it’s definitely too short to worry about your anxiety rather than putting yourself out there and spending the best times of your life happy and thriving!
