Best Valentine’s Gifts on a Budget

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at KU chapter.

Valentine’s day, that one day a year that couples love and girls like me dread, reminding me that I am desperately and utterly…. Single. Sigh.

But, did you ladies all know that you can still treat yourself and everyone else you know? And on a college girl budget, too? I know. Shocker. I’m going to show you right here, right now:

Coupon Books

All right, who else loves receiving these babies? I know I do. And the best part is that they cost almost no money at all! When I make these, I try to make them as personal as possible. From backrubs to scrubbing the sink— I made this for my mom when I was a kid, obviously— these make great personal and inexpensive gifts.

Hit up the dollar section

If you ladies do decide that it would be better to buy something for your love bug this year, go for the dollar section at Target. You’ll get more bang for your buck that way. I know there is usually really random stuff that nobody needs, but if you look hard enough, I’m sure you’ll find something that works perfectly!

Crafts

Okay, so, this might be a little bit more expensive than the first, but there is no need to buy the whole Hobby Lobby on 23rd Street (even though I probably shouldn’t being giving you that idea). I love to make random stuff for my friends and family since I don’t have a boy in my life… But if you do, that’s fantastic! Create something that you’ll know he will love. The possibilities are endless, really.

Make your own food

Why go out to restaurants on V-day when they are already going to be so packed anyway? Make your own food! Recreate something that you love at restaurants— my favorite is Chipotle burrito bowls, of course— and go to town! This is so much more romantic than waiting in line at a fancy restaurant and this way, you get to decide when, where and what. The perfect deal, if you ask me!

These are some of my suggestions and I’m pretty sure you can combine all four and make a fantastic evening for your valentine.

Now ladies, I’ve got to go. I have a date… with my love bug…

My cat.
