Campus Cutie: Michael Duffy

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kenyon chapter.

Michael Duffy: drama lover, avid apple consumer, and one of the coolest sophomores at Kenyon, is our first Campus Cutie of the year. I had the honor of sitting down with him in Peirce lounge earlier this week. Read on to find out more about the elusive Duff man.

Name: Michael Thomas Duffy

Age: 19, going on 20 (October 4th)

Year: 2017

Hometown: Delaware, Ohio (The Dirty D)

Major: Double major in Drama and History. I get eye-rolls when I tell people I’m a drama major so I added in history. It prevents the dreaded eye-roll.

Activities: Retired Lax bro, theater, rugby (casually), CA for Lower Lewis, hanging with the homies.

Spirit animal: A little bear. Like a slightly grown up cub.

HCK: Let’s get into the awkward questions first. What are three qualities you look for in a significant other?

MD: She has to have great eyes, because they say a lot about a person. Being able to hold a conversation is really important. Also, she has to be able to make me laugh and mess around with me when I’m goofing off.

HCK: Describe your perfect date.

MD: I’d love to mess around in a Walmart (especially the toy section) or Whole Foods and then get some coffee or ice-cream.

HCK: What’s the most romantic thing you’ve ever done for someone you were interested in?

MD: Senior prom, I asked out one of my really good friends at the time. I thought, “All right, it’s prom; let’s romance her.” I invited her into my house and out onto my patio. There were a bunch of candles and Christmas lights leading out onto a path. Marvin Gaye was playing in the background. We’re walking down this path, and at the end I had this metal sculpture with a really thick piece of paper attached to it. I had my mom write ‘Prom?’ on it in really fancy handwriting. She said yes.

HCK: Sweet. Moving on: You’re really involved in the drama department at Kenyon. If you could play any character in a play, who would it be? Why?

MD: I have this weird affinity for Marlon Brando – I like the idea of him. I was obsessed with A Streetcar Named Desire in High School. I love the idea of playing a Stanley Kowalksi. He’s a horrible person, but an interesting character to work with. I want to find out what makes him tick and turn him into my own.

HCK: What’s something that most people at Kenyon don’t know about you?

MD: I remember my own birth. (Author’s Note: I heard the whole story and it’s incredibly entertaining. Readers, definitely ask Duffy about it sometime.)

HCK: If you could be an ice-cream flavor, which would you be and why?

MD: Pistachio, because I’m a hard nut to crack.

HCK: What are three places you would like to visit in your lifetime?

MD: Toledo, Akron, and Cincinnati.  It’s attainable.

HCK: Finally, name one thing on your Kenyon Bucket list.

MD: I’d be down to play racquetball (or squash) with Decatur. He has big, strong calves – he’d be a good competitor.
