Campus Celebrity: Meredith Bentsen ’15

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kenyon chapter.

Meredith Bentsen, it seems, can do it all. She manages to balance classes, homework, lacrosse practice, sorority life, a student council position, and so much more. This girl has really got it together. I have the pleasure of being this lady’s teammate, so I know for a fact that she is constantly busy, yet is able to make time for everything she is involved with, and trust me, that is A LOT.  She took a few minutes out of her spring break in Disney World to speak with HerCampus about how she manages it all.

Name: Meredith Bentsen

Age: Just over 19 1/2

Hometown: Washington D.C. and Houston Texas

Major: Political Science

Minor: Religious Studies

Kenyon Activities: Sophomore Class President, Women’s Lacrosse Goalie, Alumni Coordinator of Theta Delta Phi, Member of the Dean’s Advisory Council, Member of KSA (Kenyon Student Athletes), Field Hockey Announcer (Which she claims doesn’t count except for the fact that she has been told she has a distinct voice…)

How do you manage to balance all of these activities?
Definitely time management especially during lacrosse season. I like living south this year because it allows me to be closer to the library.

Is there one of these activities that is your favorite?
Lacrosse because that is what first attracted me to Kenyon, and my team is like my family.

How do you prepare for a big game?
Well, I’ve kept the same number since I was a freshman, so that’s a big deal; 44. No connection to Obama but that’s a nice plus. I usually listen to Eminem and participate in the team dance party and I always, before conference games, kiss my jersey before we head out. Oh and I always wear white Nike socks.

So you are pretty involved in Theta.  Are you doing anything special for Theta’s 25th anniversary this year?
We are having a reunion in the fall, which I am planning along with my committee. The thing that is special about Theta is that we were the first sorority at Kenyon and since then has led the way for sororities in many aspects, such as division housing. We have gone through many transitions and it is just fun to bring back a lot of generations, especially women that really got things going for sororities at Kenyon in the late 80s.

What is on your Kenyon bucket list?
Drive down Middle Path on a Kenyon golf cart, go down to the train tracks at night, do the gentlemen’s workout at the KAC, introduce myself to chef Meaghan, and oh! Ring the church bells.

Which of these is #1?
Definitely the golf cart one.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Hopefully working somewhere in a city… I guess… oh my gosh I’ll be 30! That’s upsetting. Hopefully married or on that track and then just loving life and being a good Kenyon alum.

What would be the title of your autobiography?
Sweats Are A Girl’s Best Friend.

Anything else?
I got a nice tan over spring break in Florida. If you wanna see it, come to our game against Oberlin this Thursday the 21st at Mavec Field.

NOTE: If that isn’t enough motivation check out the article posted in the Oberlin Review last semester titled “Loathing the Lords.”
