Finals week is slowly coming to an end, and summer is so close we can almost taste it. At this point everyone could use some motivation to keep pushing through all the studying and exams. Take a quick study break and check out what should be on everyone’s Summer 2014 Bucketlist!
1) Try something new
Add some excitement to your summer and try something you’ve never done before! Try a food you’ve never had before. Go to a concert for a type of music you’ve never listened to; you might end you loving it! If you have the time (and money), grab a group of friends and take a trip to a place you’ve always wanted to visit. The options are endless!
2) Read a book
We spend too much time on Netflix and not enough time enjoying all the wonderful books available to us. Head to your local library and see how much a library card is; they’re usually cheap! Going to the beach with your family? Pick out a good book, kick back on the sand, soak up the sun and get a killer tan in the process!
3) Spend time outside
When we were kids, our parents could barely get us to come back inside after a day of playing outside. Make an effort to get out and take advantage of the summer! Go on a hike with friends, take your dog for a walk, or head to the pool. Whatever you do, just get out of the house and enjoy the warmth; because, let’s be real, we know in the fall we’ll spend enough time binge watching Netflix when we should be studying.
4) Go to an amusement park
People come from all over America to go to Cedar Point; here at Kent we are only two hours away! Are you brave enough to try the Dragster, the second tallest roller coaster in the world? Or do you prefer steeps hills, like the Mavrick with a straight 95 degree drop? Cedar Point offers all types of rides, and all the best types of carnival foods. Don’t forget to grab your swimsuit for the water rides!
5) Go on a road trip
Nothing beats good times with great friends! Take a trip to the beach; try Myrtle Beach or Hilton Head. Don’t want to do the typical beach vacation? Try NYC, or if you’re a country music fan, go to Nashville. Have a quarter? Get in the car and flip it; every time it lands on heads turn right, every time it lands on tails turn left. See where you end up!
6) Go to a baseball game
Baseball is America’s favorite pass time! Nothing beats sitting in the stands and cheering on your team while singing along to Take Me Out to the Ball Game and trying to catch a foul ball. Head up to Jacob’s Field (it will always be Jacob’s Field, sorry Progressive Field) in Cleveland for dollar dog night or firework night. ROLL TRIBE!
7) Volunteer
Yes, summer is about having fun and relaxing, but also make a point of doing something worthwhile. Look in to local organizations that take volunteers, like a soup kitchen or an animal shelter. A few hours throughout three months is something everyone can manage!
As we get older our carefree summers are limited. We need to enjoy it while we can. Go out and make this summer the best one yet!
