Your Guide to the Perfect Kent State Valentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kent State chapter.

Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching and, if you’re stuck in Kent this weekend, it seems like there is nothing romantic to do. You’ll probably end up going to the library or staying inside and taking a nap. Spice things up with this quick guide on what to do when you’re looking for love in Kent, Ohio.

Downtown Kent

1. Bar 145

Bar145 is holding a free single’s mixer all day long, making it the perfect place to get lunch, dinner and a new boyfriend this Valentine’s Day. Their laid back atmosphere is perfect for a first date and a casual drink (or two). Be on the lookout for drink specials, as this spot is known for speciality holiday drinks developed that day.

2. 157 Lounge

For all you swanky daters out there, 157 Lounge is the perfect spot for snacking on sushi and sipping on martinis. The mood lighting and atmosphere is just right for setting off a few sparks this Sunday night. It’s a great option if you’re if you need to sneak in a date between study sessions this Valentine’s Day.

3. Bricco

If you are looking for a classic dinner date, Bricco is the place to be. With classic romantic entrees like steak and pasta, you won’t be missing out. The atmosphere is perfect for a first date, or a 50th.

4. Tree City

With chilly weather looming over you and busy class schedules stressing you out, grabbing a hot chocolate with your beau may be just what you need to relieve stress and add some romance into your routine. Drink your hot cocoa and explore all the nifty shops that Akorn Alley has to offer.

5. Secret Cellar

Finally, if you are looking for a Lady and the Tramp style Valentine’s Day, head over to the Secret Cellar. The mood is just right and the food is delicious. What could be more romantic than sharing some wine and pasta with your date? It doesn’t get much better than this!

On Campus

So you’re not willing to trek all the way downtown from your warm and cozy dorm? Fear not, campus hot spots may be just what you need in order to enjoy yourself this Valentine’s Day.

1. Quaker Steak & Lube

Head over to the most popular (and only) sit-down restaurant on campus. Not only will you get fine dining at this hotspot, but you can use your meal plan! What can be more romantic than that? Hurry and get there as early as possible, as the wait time for this restaurant is always through the roof.

2. Stay In

Okay, so even though this article is about things you can do on campus, you can technically still have a perfectly romantic date right in the comfort of your own home (dorm room)! Head over to Eastway Market or Rosie’s, pick up some pasta and make do! Go to your communal kitchen and cook up this easy meal to share with your date. Then, you can be free to Netflix and chill in your room, just make sure your roommate is okay with it.

Now that you’re equipped with this Valentine’s Day insight, just remember, it’s not where you spend this special day, but who you spend it with.
