Winter coat trends you need to know about

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kent State chapter.

Winter is coming and that means breaking out the parkas once again. This year, a lot of designers have tackled the winter coat in new and interesting ways. But as we all know, designer coats come with designer price tags and not all of us can drop two grand on a jacket we’ll wear for maybe four years and then replace. Thankfully, there are a lot of inexpensive options that let you copy higher-end styles without breaking the bank. Here are some direct-from-runway winter coat trends.

1. SPRINGTIME COLORS

Why wait for spring to break out your lively colors? This year, a major trend on fall/winter runways was vivid colored winter coats. Try fun hues like bright pink, vibrant red and baby blue to shake up the dull palette of the winter season. Try this one or this one for cheaper options.

2. TOGGLE COATS

Toggle coats are the ones with large enamel-like “hooks” and fabric loops instead of buttons or zippers, and they’re all the rage. I like this trend because, let’s face it, who hasn’t struggled with buttons while they’re wearing snuggly mittens to brave the outside weather? Get yourself a comfy toggle coat and leave difficult coat application behind. Find some affordable toggle coats here and here.

3. CAMEL

Camel is the beautiful cool or neutral shade of tan that adorns our favorite purses, shoes and, now, coats. Currently, one of the biggest trends on the runway is camel leather jackets. Leather or not, though, the truth is that camel is a beautiful color that is flattering on everyone. With prices like this and this everyone can experience some camel magic this season.

We hope this has inspired you to branch out this winter season and try something new!
