Why Commercials are the Best Part of the Super Bowl

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kent State chapter.

The Super Bowl. It comes once a year and is accompanied by food, friends and obviously football. However, for me, the highlight of this national event is not who scores the most touch downs, but what happens in between downs: the commercials. Super Bowl commercials are known for being interesting and psychologically engaging. It is the one time of year when people don’t tune the commercials out. There have been 50 years of memorable half time performances, championships and enticing advertisements. This year’s halftime show line up was iconic in itself. With performances by three incredible artists, your private, at home concert with the rest of the nation was top notch. Bruno Mars, Coldplay and Beyonce graced our screens with a show that was unforgettable.

As for the commercials, companies such as Doritos, Budwiser and Coca Cola always know how to pull in the audience. Take your bathroom break and pause for food during the action on the field and tune in for the best part: the halftime show and the commercials. These commercials toy with your emotions, whether happy or sad, in order to get you to buy their products. Or, you could just watch them for pure enjoyment. Take a trip down Super Bowl memory lane and remember why each of these classic commercials made you so forget about the game:

It made you smile.

It lead you to wonder what people were thinking when they created this ad.

It made you laugh and question your own personal attitude.

It messed with your emotions, and made you want a dog.

It made you feel proud.

It made you feel empowered…

…and they all just made you glad that you weren’t watching football!
