Should you meet your Tinder match IRL?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kent State chapter.

It’s hard to tell whether or not a guy is even worth meeting in person when you’ve matched with him on Tinder, or any other dating site for that matter.  In the back of your mind you’re probably thinking why he even has a Tinder.  Is it to hook up or could it be to find the love of his life?  Maybe you’re on there for the same reasons. Well, I’m here to help you sift through all the bad seeds.

Here are five examples of the type of Tinder match you should avoid meeting up with:

1. He starts off with a douchey ice breaker.

If he begins your conversation by saying something completely vulgar, I would say that’s an obvious no go for you.  Sometimes things can get tricky when they use a corny pickup line that borders on the inappropriate. If his opening line makes you feel uncomfortable; That’s a red flag.

2. You exchange phone numbers but he never texts first.

You seem to be hitting it off over the app so you exchange numbers, but once you do that he never texts you first.  This might not be a big deal, maybe he’s busy, but maybe he’s not.  If this persists then it’s safe to say he really doesn’t care that much about getting to know you.

3.  If he keeps cancelling the plans you make together.

You’re finally at the moment where you think you can meet the amazing guy you’ve been chatting with but he just seems to be always canceling on you.  If he is calling off the date at the last minute this is a sign that he really doesn’t want to actually ever meet up with you.

4.  “Want to Chill” = Not worth your time.

If he doesn’t take you on a real date that he’s actually put some time and effort into planning out then he is honestly not worth your time.  I mean it doesn’t have to be a huge shebang but if he names something specific to do when you guys meet up then it’s probably a good chance he cares about impressing you and wants to get to know you in person.

5.  If he doesn’t seems genuinely interested in what you have to say.

If while communicating he changes the subject when you’ve just told him about your day then he doesn’t really care about the person you are.  This might seem like an obvious one but it’s one that is often times overlooked.
