1. Fifty Shades Darker
Just in time for Valentine’s Day, the sequel of Fifty Shades of Grey will finally be here, and it’s supposed to be even more risqué than the first one! Christian Grey, played by Jamie Dornan, and Dakota Johnson as his beloved Anastasia Steele are back together, but it appears their love has taken another turn. Take your partner or round up your girls to end your Galentine’s with what is sure to be the steamiest movie of the year.
2. Beauty and the Beast
Disney fanatics (like myself) have been waiting for them to announce this one ever since they first started releasing live-action versions of our favorite childhood fairytales. As if this isn’t exciting enough, Emma Watson is cast as Belle: the headstrong, book-reading, leading lady of the story. Sounds a bit like another spell-binding bookworm brought to life by Watson, no?
3. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
After the original 2014 summer blockbuster took the world by storm, this sequel has been long awaited by followers of the comics and new fans alike. Set for a spring release, Chris Pratt returns to the big screen to look for his long-lost father played by Kurt Russell. Personally, we’re just hoping for more scenes of Baby Groot.
In this TV show-turned-movie reboot, The Rock and Zac Efron are coming together to bless our screens with hopefully as much slow-motion jogging as possible. How could this get any better? Well, Baywatch veteran Pamela Anderson recently announced that she has signed on to the remake as well. The movie is set to premier in May.
5. Wonder Woman
What better way to start off the summer than with this superhero’s first solo film? She first appeared in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and now she’ll be wowing crowds with her own story. With Chris Pine as her love interest, do you need more of a reason to get excited about this one?
6. Justice League
Keeping with the superhero theme, DC Comics gets its own shot at a crusader group movie that will include Wonder Woman herself and finally introduce Aquaman to the big screen. Comic book fans, 2017 is your year.
7. Star Wars: Episode VIII
The next installment of the treasured Star Wars story is set for December and picks up right where the last one left off. Many details are being kept under wraps about this one as it still has a way to go, but rumors have sparked about a possible Joseph Gordon-Levitt cameo. Fingers crossed!
That’s right, your favorite cult classic is getting a reboot! However, the directors are describing it as more of a “continuation” of the original, so we’ll have to wait until December to figure out what exactly that means. The best part, though? We’ll get to watch The Rock and Kevin Hart continue their bromance in this upcoming flick!
9. Pitch Perfect 3
The whole gang is coming together one last time! With the entire cast signed on to return, we’re intrigued to find out where the plot will take the group since they’re all graduates now. You’ll have to wait till the end of December for the final part of the trilogy, but after changing directors and release dates, we’re sure everything’s on track to be aca-fantastic!
10. Kingsman: The Golden Circle
This sure-to-be summer blockbuster is the sequel to Kingsman: The Secret Service and is reuniting the entire original cast including Colin Firth and the smoldering Taron Egerton. Most of the details for the plot are still unknown, but rumor has it the British gang will meet up with their American counterparts. The directors recently announced a few newcomers to the story such as Julianne Moore, Sir Elton John, Halle Berry and—wait for it—CHANNING TATUM. We’d be willing to go just for him alone.
11. Despicable Me 3
After a successful first two movies, a prequel and a theme park attraction, your favorite villain along with his quirky-cute henchmen are back for a third movie! Steve Carell will reprise his role as the lovable Gru in the upcoming summer film, but those are the only details that we know of for sure. Either way, be prepared for it to bring out your inner child.
12. Friday the 13th
For all you scary movie lovers, the infamous ‘80s horror franchise is making an attempt at a comeback next fall. After what seemed like the end of the franchise over a decade ago, Jason Voorhees is back and ready to slash again. Little is known plotwise and the release date has been pushed back, but we’re thinking this will make for a great date night come next Halloween.
13. Toy Story 4
Another kiddy movie that is sure to strike a chord, the fourth installment in the Toy Story saga takes on a new storyline with Andy no longer in the picture. Following the emotional departure from their home, Woody, Buzz and the gang will adjust to life with their new child, Bonnie, in the latest film. As long as Tom Hanks and Tim Allen sign on, there’s no way you’re going to want to miss this.
14. Hidden Figures
In this 1960s flick, three African-American women play the brains behind a monumental space operation that changed NASA and space pioneering forever—AND it’s based on a true story! Still not convinced? The movie has a star-studded cast that include Octavia Spencer, Taraji P. Henson, Kevin Costner, Kirsten Dunst and Jim Parsons and is already anticipated to be one of the best movies of 2017.
15. The Mountain Between Us
When their plane crashes in the Colorado wilderness, a pair of badly injured strangers are forced to trust and rely on each other in order to survive. During their journey, their bond grows and grows, eventually forming an undeniable love. Kate Winslet recently signed on to play the leading lady alongside Idris Elba in the film adaptation of this best seller. Get ready to bust out the tissues.
16. Bad Dads
The spin-off of the 2016 hit Bad Moms is set to hit theatres in July of 2017. Not much at all has been released about this upcoming summer blockbuster, no pictures yet, and the film has yet to be casted. However, with the comedic genius of the same producers and directors of the original movie, there’s no way it won’t be a hit.
After a bad breakup, Emily, portrayed by Amy Schumer, convinces Goldie Hawn as her mom into going on a vacation to Ecuador, only to be kidnapped shortly after arriving. The mother/daughter duo must join together to escape their kidnappers and the threatening jungle as well. This comedy is set to debut in late spring of next year, and based on Schumer’s performance in Trainwreck, we can’t wait!
