Meet Sarah Shade, a junior who decided to travel abroad over spring break 2016.

Major: Finance

Age: 21

Hometown: Willard, Ohio

Her Campus: Where did you study abroad?

Sarah Shade: I studied abroad in Dublin, Ireland.

Her Campus: What made you want to study abroad?

SS: I have always wanted to go to Ireland since I was little. So when the opportunity arose, I took it.

Her Campus: What was your favorite part about studying abroad?

SS: I really enjoyed learning about the 1916 Easter Rising. The Irish rose to gain freedom from the British government, which created conflict because a lot was already going on with World War I. We got to see the jail that housed the leaders of the uprisings, and even the courtyards where they were executed. That part of the trip was crazy.

Her Campus: Did you dislike anything about studying abroad?

SS: I wish the trip was longer! It would have been nice to visit other parts of Ireland. Also, the time change was really rough.

Her Campus: Would you ever study abroad again?

SS: It’s a lot of money, but I’d probably want to go to Paris. I haven’t really thought about where else I’d want to study abroad. I really liked Ireland because they mainly spoke English.

Her Campus: Would you recommend studying abroad to other college students?

SS: Yes. It was personally beneficial, because it was my first time on a plane and traveling by myself. I was exposed to a lot of new cultures and food. It was a totally different atmosphere. I think if students get the chance, they should definitely study abroad.

Her Campus: What are your goals for the rest of the semester?

SS: Just to try and remain focused these last few weeks, and finish my classes on a strong note.
