Are you ever tired of listening to the same songs or playlists over and over again?  Do you need a new vibe for the music you listen to? We all do sometimes! Creating new playlists with a whole new mix of old and new songs can really spice up the experience of listening to music. These niche playlist themes can be used no matter what your style of music is. Here are five oddly specific playlist themes I have in my music library. Check them out and add them to yours!

“Oops! My main character complex is showing!” (The Soundtrack To Your Life)

These are songs that make you feel like the star of your own show (which you are)! They make you wanna walk down a hallway in slow motion or have a dramatic montage playing. What songs would you want to play when you kiss your crush? Or when you’re shopping? Or at a party? Pretty much any mundane activity feels more dramatic when those types of songs are playing. My “soundtrack” consists of songs like “New Girl” by FINNEAS, “Bags” by Clairo and “Waves” by Luna Shadows.

“That one feeling in your tummy” (The Crush Playlist)

This playlist isn’t an “in love” playlist. It’s the playlist you listen to when you’re texting the person you have a crush on and you start to get butterflies. It’s perfect for when you feel like you’re on cloud nine and just want to dance around your room. Some songs I have on my crush playlist are “Heart To Break” by Kim Petras, “Love Again” by Dua Lipa  and “Butterflies” by Kacey Musgraves.

“My villain origin story” (The Angry Playlist)

You’re angry. You’re angsty. But you want to feel empowered. You want to feel like the villain of the story that is your life (temporarily, of course). It’s fun to pretend to be the bad guy while you let yourself simmer down. Some of my villainous song recommendations include “Close Your Eyes” by Kim Petras, “Devil’s Playground” by The Rigs and “you should see me in a crown” by Billie Eilish.

“Hufflepuff who has a crush on a Slytherin” (The Fantasy Playlist)

Okay ladies, hear me out. We’ve all wanted to pretend that we’re the love interest in our favorite fictional tale. In this playlist, you can escape reality and put yourself into your favorite fictional world. You can be Bella from Twilight. You can Y/N in a Harry Styles fanfiction. You can pretend you go to Hogwarts and YOU’RE the Hufflepuff who has a crush on a Slytherin (who just so happens to be Draco Malfoy). The vibe for my specific playlist is “good girl/bad boy.” A few songs that fit that theme perfectly are “Daddy Issues” by The Neighbourhood, “Golden” by Harry Styles, and “Heaven” by Julia Michaels. Compile a list of songs that fit the theme to your fictional romance and you’re good to go!

“POV: It’s 2014” (The Throwback Playlist)

I don’t know about you, but I love to relish in nostalgia and think back to the time when I wasn’t an adult with stress and responsibilities. This playlist takes me back to middle school, specifically the eighth grade, when all I had to worry about was finding a ride to Hot Topic and when 5 Seconds of Summer was gonna release a new album. I was an emo kid in middle school, so my throwback playlist consists of songs such as “Uma Thurman” by Fall Out Boy, “Teenagers” by My Chemical Romance and “English Love Affair” by 5 Seconds of Summer.

Everyone’s taste in music is a little different. Make these playlists your own! Add different songs, take the themes in a different direction or even come up with a whole new theme on your own. Get creative and happy listening!
