Elise Jennings on playing sports and the struggles she’s overcome

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kent State chapter.

Her Campus: What is your name and major?

Elise Jennings: My name is Elise Jennings and I’m a VCD (Visual Communication Design) major.

HC: How long have you played sports? What sports have you played?

EJ: I started soccer when I was four. I played soccer until sophomore year of high school. I started basketball when I was five and played until senior year of high school. I started track in fourth grade until senior year, and I played rugby for six games until I tore my ACL.

HC: What was your favorite thing about playing sports?

EJ: The friends and the community you create through sports.

HC: What did you value most about playing sports?

EJ: Probably learning how to collaborate with people and meeting people from different backgrounds.

Why did you decide to not play sports in college?

EJ: I wanted to focus on my major and playing sports takes a lot of time out of your social life.

HC: What was your biggest challenge when playing sports in high school?

EJ: Probably going back after tearing my ACL after spring of junior year.

HC: What was it like to come back after that? What was your biggest fear?

EJ: My biggest fear was probably tearing my ACL again, because its happened to my friends.

HC: How did you manage the challenges you faced both on and off the field?

EJ: My mom helped me a lot through my sports adventures. She always understood the situation and listened to me vent when I needed to talk.
